I think all IT firms prefer to keep their hands clean by simply contributing money, They don't want to get into the administrative work of the corporation. If something goes wrong, ORRCA or corresponding body will start the blame game.

Recent came across this statement in today's paper concerning the garbage crisis, I think by the court, "Paying money is not enough, we need your active participation". What does this mean?

It may depend on how they are going to build. And the span is too much, something like covering 10 lanes. Just hoping that it would have elevators for the elderly.

I have seen something like a skywalk being constructed near Marathahalli junction, towards ITPL. It has two big towers on both sides, looks like for housing elevators. Anyone seen this?

AFAIR, there is a notice board which does mention that this is a sky walk. Looking at the wall, I too believe there would be a elevator on either side of the road, however not many people would use it as long as the median height is increased. Else, people would still prefer to hop, skip and jump to the other side.

The foundation stone was laid in 2011/2012, I guess. Work is in full swing now. Yes, it will have elevators. While it is good to have, it is at a junction. At junctions, it is not that un-nerving to cross the roads. The ideal location for that bridge would be in front of Kalamandir.

I quite agree, though I would prefer this at both the locations, along with the median being barricaded.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

The one being constructed solves only half the problem. The spot were people cross the road in front of "Little Dreams" & SBI bank (other side of the under pass) creates further jam. If the entire median section isn't cordoned off, this elevator/skywalk if not little use.

Usual fortnightly accident strikes again, outside Intel, this time a Zen hit the flyover pillar. Luckily, the damage in minor and no one was hurt. Car needs to be removed though.

it is not practical to cordon off the median entirely for large distances either. There are situations where emergency response services arrive via one carriageway and their need is on the other - for example, an accident on the northbound carriageway and the ambulance arriving via the southbound. In such circumstances, these people need to be able to quickly jump over the median and provide assistance rather than having to go kilometres further in search of a U-turn.

In fact, if we assume that an accident will invariably cause a traffic jam behind it, it will always be optimal for the ambulance to arrive from ahead of it.

Doddanekkundi signal is not working again. When it is switched off, at least the amber lights blink. Today no lights were on.

There already was chaos at 7.45 AM. I can't imagine the situation at 10 AM. But I have a (positive) feeling that traffic police will handle this signal during peak hours, if the lights are not fixed.

Didn't see the car at 9:30, hopefully it was removed. But there was a Truck and a couple of cars stranded on the Bellandur flyover (Towards Marthahalli) causing the traffic pileups till Iblur.

But again, looks like less cars on the roads today.

I agree the need to access both side of the road in case of medical emergency.
The issue I am pointing out is, people crossing the road at will at any given location. The medians are so low. We need to have medians which cant be jumped over easily. It should be like a meter high, like most of the other cities have. Cordon off the entire stretch with permanent grade divider or raise the height of the median.

We still allow U-turn (or) passage at the top of the bridge for medical vehicles to reach either side of the road.
This high raise median will make sure people will use the skywalk instead of crossing at will.

Yeah, this caused a decent jam before and after the flyover. The place virtually came to a standstill on an otherwise relatively less populated Monday. I crossed the place around 8:20

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

When the last accident at the said flyover occurred, I thought it was because of the lack of reflectors on the beginning of the flyover. But this time, inspite of a reflector being present there, the accident still happened.

Have you seen the situation in front of railway station? there are 1.5 mtr high barricades on the median and still people climb it to cross instead of using the underpass. Some people never learn

This is a bad idea - as you know, 5 minutes in an accident case could very well be the difference between survival and death.

Probably some sort of median fencing that can be removed by emergency response teams (policemen, fire department personnel etc.). But given the super-high levels of civic responsibility the average Bangalorean shows, I doubt such fences would last beyond a week.
