My understanding is that Tumkur road is bang in the middle of Peenya industrial estate. The whole thing (with minor violence added in), gives me a feeling that there is more to this rioting. It cannot be a spontaneous event, but the usual methods of asking people to assemble have not been used. Most likely WhatsApp etc. may have been used to "spread the word around".

Maybe they started rioting in Tumkur road when most of the police force was moved to Hosur road. Nice tactics seen.
True. From what I read in the paper around 8 Dep.Coms (who generally are in charge of Police Divisions - East, West, North, South, South East etc.) plus more senior officers etc. are all focusing on the South East part of Bangalore.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Mysore Road, Tumkur Road and Hosur Road have been affected and public transport vehicles have been burnt. Its really turning violent.

Hopefully, the central govt is feeling the heat ! :(

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Is there any impact on traffic towards the Airport. We need to catch an early morning flight tomorrow. As we will leave home by 5.30 am, hopefully it will be uneventful. Keeping fingers crossed

I don't think there will be any reason to worry for an early morning commute to airport. Today and yesterday, the strike was during office hours.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

There is a huge rush at the NICE Toll(EC/Hosur road entry) and from Bannerghatta road entry towards Mysore/Tumkur road.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

A protest which is totally justified unlike the rioting and looting which happen for reservation, political bandhs etc. This should have been arranged in Delhi. They have relaxed the PF withdrawal criteria for marriage, education, house etc. But still left out the other major eventuality, that is job loss or unemployment.

Real time update:

Time: 4:15pm - 5:20pm
Start: Prestige Shantiniketan, Big Bazaar Signal, Whitefield

End: BTM Lake Road

Via: Alpine Eco, Marathalli Underpass, Ecospace, Agara, Silkboard.

Time: 1 hr 10 mins

Slow moving traffic at Ecospace, Iblur, HSR.
That's it. No jams whatsoever due to protests.
Expect normal evening traffic. I would say kudos to BTP if they have managed to clear traffic.

EDIT: Just to clarify, things are still tense on Tumkur road and EC NICE road toll, as per update received on a whatsapp group.

Few images received via whatsapp group:

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

I just drove home from whitefield to BEL Circle and there was hardly any traffic along the ORR. Looks like traffic was at a standstill at Gorguntepalya and beyond on Tumkur Road.

I heard that cars parked at the People Tree hospital were also damaged.

Got these images from a friend in Peenya

Got the above image on whatsapp stating that they are cars inside Biocon which were damaged by protestors who broke into the campus.

Poor car owners. will the insurance companies make payment in this case?

Guys, stick to the subject of this thread please. If you wish to discuss PF and it's modalities please use the PF thread for that.

Edit: We have moved out all the PF related discussions to the above thread.

This is really scary!

This is what an unruly mob is capable of in our country. Sickening!
90% of the protestors would have wanted a peaceful protest and the remaining 10% of them would have been there just to cause havoc!

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Looks like there are also a few folks who are injured. Saw a VIP convoy moving towards Narayana Hrudayalaya side. Other wise the city streets were pretty much empty (on the South East part of the city). This "protest", seems to be not a very simple straight forward one.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Drove from Kochi today and guess I was lucky with the timing. Reached Hosur by around 4pm and passed Attibelle, Hebbagodi, ECity, Singasandra, Kudlu, HSR, without any issues, and reached home at 5pm. Didn't take BETL. I was following the developments and was thinking of taking Chandapura-Sarjapur diversion, but thanks to Google traffic, stayed on Hosur road. Before Attibelle, there were lot of trucks waiting to cross border. And towards Hosur, it was jam packed with trucks stuck at checkpost, guess it was all the backlog. There were remains of burnt tires on NH7 at Hebbagudi and lot of police presence.
