Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

HSR layout towards bellandur was jammed at 1 PM today. The backup started right as you get down from HSR BDA flyover (not Agara flyover). No idea why as there was no waterlogging in that area as far as I can tell. Did not have the patience and turned back at agara flyover and back to office.
Wife started from HSR layout at 5:20 PM and he same happened. Her backup started on the agara flyover and she reached home at 6:15 PM.
Not sure what happened today and I hope it is a glitch in the matrix and not something permanent.
I guess more tech parks and offices have started functioning in the ORR stretch. More traffic yay!!

Change for Good?

It may be BTP's action on yesterday or the Organization's transport department taking things seriously on the complaints or perhaps both, the results were indeed positive today - Every Bus respected the No entry rule today and not even a single bus belonging to this organization entered this road even without cops' presence at this junction. As you can notice in today's video, all the Green buses turned left at this junction to take the designated route advised by the authorities.

A little effort, relentless one at that on regular basis helps. This is indeed a simple evidence of how if one comes out of the "It doesn't affect me or I don't care" attitude helps bring about a positive change.

It is only a guess on the magnitude of changes collective efforts by all can bring in.

My request to the employees availing company transport - Please speak up. I am not asking to be finicky or nitpick but at least make your vehicle's drivers to follow the basic traffic rules - Traffic Lights, No Entry, Zebra Crossing, Overspeeding, Rash Driving, Seat Belts to start with.

As usual, here's the video from today where you can notice all the buses taking left towards Krupanidhi/Water Tank Junction:

My only hope now is that cops are vigilant and so is the organization (& Others) that this doesn't recur after adhering to the rule for a week.

Well done mate. Very good relentless initiative from your side. We, the public , crib about the bad road condition. That is a major concern. Also if we drive adhering to the rules, we can avoid traffic congestion to an extent. This is a good message from your side requesting people to follow basic driving/riding rules.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

YEsterday while driving to office in the afternoon behind Graphite witnessed a crash. A biker in the usual haste that bikers have and completely ignoring common sense tried to overtake a TT moving at around 40 kph. The biker was in the TT's blind zone and the place of his choosing to overtake was also wrong. It is a slight bend in the road. Add to that there was a gutter on the left. The biker pushed his luck. Though he was not very lucky his bike handle grazed the TT and of course he lost his balance. Luckily the TT drivers reflexes caused him to slow and move to the right. This gave the biker space to fall away from the gutter. Also the TT stopped which prevented the biker from coming under the wheels of the TT. I wish I had a dashcam. I could have recorded the stupidity of the biker in reality.
Just a couple of months back I was flamed (online) by a biker (who happens to be a member here). I wish I had the video and I could counter his claims about bikers generally hurry and complete lack of common sense.
ANyway post the accident the TT driver quickly got down. Picked up the stunned bikers vehicle. Gave him water to drink. I was expecting to hear the biker bad mouth the driver as is the case usually. But the guy was too stunned. I was behind the TT and saw a live demo and was glad the TT driver helped and thanked my stars that if the speeds were slightly different the biker would have been more seriously injured and probably since I was behind the TT I too could have been involved in the crash.

You know what. None of the people who we saw working on fixing the problem has this in their job charter.
1. Traffic Police - to ensure that motorists follow the rules & regulations on the road.
2. Fire Brigade - to do fire fighting and also do rescue operations. Yes they are bound to act if there is a flood, but what we see at Doddanekkundi is not a flood.
3. Private Security guard - not authorized for traffic law enforcement or for fire & rescue operations.

A little rain brings Outer Ring Road to a standstill
The BBMP last year asked the BDA to hand over ORR for maintenance stating that a lot of debris and garbage are being dumped there. However, it seems that little action has been taken on the ground. BBMP and BDA officials could not be reached for comment. - this is the response from the agencies who are supposed to ensure that the city infrastructure is in working order .

Fun has started.
1. Water logging at Veerasandra
2. Slow traffic at Bellandur.
3. Rains at Whitefield side.

Water logging at Varthur kodi. Pile up on Whitefield main road.

Well, I sure hope the employees using the cabs understand that it is their own life that is put in danger and if ever there is mob violence because of their cab going against the rule, they wouldn't be immune to it just because they are not driving it.

I do not use the company transport, but anytime I see my company cabs break any rules, I promptly report it to the transport team. Every little bit helps.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

I got into trouble today in "no man's land" when several vehicles including 2 Uber cabs and 1 police van and one private Innova and many bikes, squeezed in and jumped the queue in which I was, which was turning right at Agara Lake . Just as I was moving ahead to turn, the light turned red - I got flamed nicely by the traffic from the opposite direction for no fault of mine.

Next, near BDA Complex Koramangala, I was in the queue to turn onto Maharishi Vamana Road. Many vehicles as usual jumped the queue by getting into the lane on the other side of the divider, which is meant for oncoming traffic. I was sitting quietly waiting for the red light to turn green. And then one Auto fellow popped up on my right side, directly in line with the road divider, and tapped my window, asking me to move over. The tone and manner he used was peremptory and as if he had some divine entitlement or divine right to do as he wished! I politely asked him why and in any case pointed to the fact that I was in queue and completely hemmed in on all sides by other commuters. He said he wanted to turn LEFT and therefore wanted me to move!!! There was no place to move to!!!!
I then asked him to wait till the traffic light changed to green and summarily rolled up my window!
Returning home this evening there was the mother of all traffic jams right here in HSR Layout causing a traffic backup for several hundred yards, maybe even a km! Luckily Im familiar with the bye lanes and thus was able to squizzle my way out and get home quickly!

What sort of rubbish do we have to go through in this stupid traffic of Bangalore? When we pay such high taxes, this is what we get. One rain and the whole city comes to an absolute standstill.

Seriously, is there any point living here in these conditions any more?
I wonder!

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

I have now started enjoying the "true fun" of commute from Electronics City side towards ITPL. The morning welcome is usually at Chandapura, where I understand there are at least 3 big schools with huge student lists. School buses, parents coming into drop their kids personally, plus the usual set of Concrete mixers, and huge tipper trucks coming in pretty much all directions (a video game module can be designed right there, after observing the traffic flows). So the journey time is now easily increased by around 15-20 mins.

The return journey used to be slightly better, but then it has started raining now. Today it took 2 hours, as Hope Farm Jn., Whitefield Road, Varthur Kodi, Varthur village were all chocked. I had buffered around 1 hr 15 mins for commute both ways, this has now changed to 1 hr 35 mins towards office, and any thing between 1 hr 30 mins to 2 hrs on the return leg. Approx. travel distance is 30kms.

PS: There was a huge traffic jam at around 1800Hrs in the Whitefield area. Water logging was the first suspect. But during my journey towards Varthur village, I noticed that water logging was there, but not very alarming. The water levels were not very high and even two wheelers could go through. The actual reason was slow moving traffic in Varthur village. I got a feeling that thanks to the ORR mess, more vehicles opted for the Varthur Road route today. Did see two lone traffic police constables trying to clear the traffic. No rain coats, no reflective jackets and no walkie talkies as well :(. The Varthur P.S (Law and Order) is just next to the road. Not even a single police man came out from there to help their own colleagues.
