Just back from the airport and like you said the road seems to be open (from airport side) but nobody seems to be taking it !!! Maybe it's because the surface looks very dodgy and is just compacted soil with a little gravel thrown in.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

The new place for jam is on Alpine Eco road is the residents have put new super roadbreakers in place which slows down traffic so much that traffic piles up regularly. Near Bren Avalon its relatively empty but before that it gets bottle necked at the Big Basket depot.
Its an evil combination of the breaker and the badly parked trucks of the suppliers of Big Basket.

I have started to avoid that road whenever possible due to these unscientific speed breakers. I don't even think they are authorized ones. Since Marathalli situation is improved, I am going via that to reach ORR.

Plan to close four junctions on the Hosur Road and introduce guided U-turns!

http://bangaloremirror.indiatimes.co...w/57259250.cms

Quote:
If four junctions on the heavy-duty Hosur Road are closed and guided U-turns are introduced, the stretch under the expressway from Silk Board to Electronics City can also be turned into a signal-free corridor
Quote:
Traffic cops have proposed to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to shut down four junctions and provide guided U-turns below the elevated flyover to decongest the road.

“We raised the issue with the BBMP Commissioner at a review meeting and they also agree with us,” said Traffic DCP (East), Abhishek Goyal. “We are waiting for the NHAI authorities’ comments now,” he said. The junctions proposed to be shut are Naganathapura (Hosa road), Kudlu gate, Garvebhavipalya and Bommasandra. Instead, guided U-turns will be provided in three places in between the mentioned junctions.
That means all the block would now shift from these junctions to Bommanahalli when travelling towards city and at the other end, it would shift to the "guided U-Turn" to enter Electronic City.

Does this also mean, they'd be introducing U-Turns under the elevated expressway? Already taking a U-turn on to the service road is an adventure on its own, with bikes and autos squeezing into the space cars take.

Yes, I take that road almost daily and what used to be free-flowing traffic has now created an unnecessary jam. Wonder who has approved the hump at that place (not even talking of the design as that can break anything and everything including speed). Only solace, towards ring road, because the traffic is held up at the hump joining ORR at rainbow hospital has become easier. Earlier, traffic would pile up beyond Alpine, these days it has become manageable here.

Both Alpine Eco and Chinnapanahalli roads are residential area. There is a need for slow movement of vehicles. However the current speed breakers are horribly designed and laid.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Ola and Uber drivers are striking today, and heard some news that at some places they are deliberately messing up traffic at road junctions.
Better administration - Police station revamp: Whitefield set to get separate DCP
This plan mooted in 2016 seems to be getting materialized soon. Looks like the worthies in the bureaucracy has understood that the IT corridor (in the East & South Eastern flanks of the city) seems to be taken as a separate entity all together. But we need to know which are the areas coming under the jurisdiction of Whitefield DCP, and whether this is only for the law and order police, or it would apply for the traffic police as well.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Not sure if this was posted by someone else earlier..
The Domlur flyover is undergoing some repair work (mostly resurfacing I think) since Monday this week (when I saw it for the first time) and as of today:
1. The up ramp from Old Airport Road on the Domlur side to Intermediate Ring Road towards EGL/Koramangala is closed and
2. The ramp from 100 feet Road on Indiranagar side to Airport Road towards Domlur/Victoria Road side is also closed

Please plan your drive on these stretches to avoid these ramps and use alternate routes.

Yemalur road (Road connecting Bellandur lake road and HAL airport road) will be closed tomorrow for PWD work. The traffic is blocked on that road during shivaratri. So take precautions if you are using that road.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Aiyoh! what a big traffic jam on the ORR!
This might become a common sentence in this thread with the word Aiyoh included into the Oxford English Dictionary (OED) in its December 2016 update.

By the way, what is latest status around Marathahalli bridge? are the experiments by BTP over? We have to go visit a friend in Kundalahalli on Saturday. Can I take the innovative multiplex exit and take a roght on the Bridge or should I go under the bridge and take a U-turn?

You need to go under the bridge on ORR and take the ISRO U Turn. You can also go up the bridge go left about half a km and then and take a U Turn. The right turn option on top of the bridge has not been there for a very long time now (Even when they opened the median and put signals, the right turn was not allowed).

On a Saturday would recommend going straight on ORR and then taking the U-Turn.

On the bridge itself, the median is now closed. But there is a teeny tiny U-turn specially for 2 wheelers just before the railway bridge. It is an official U Turn for 2 wheelers with a nice sign and all.

The gap is only wide enough for one bike to take a U-Turn from one side. So yesterday there was a traffic marshal standing there to regulate U Turns from both directions.

Apart from creating a cluster of bikes at that point, 2 wheelers from the lane opposite the U Turn also attempt to cross the road and join this cluster. Pretty dangerous as vehicles on the main road will be accelerating after crossing the bus stop area. I wonder, like the signal on the Richmond Circle flyover that was there some time back, whether this tiny U-Turn on a main road is another Bangalore specific wonder.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Today saw a very rashly driven White Honda CRV(Reg KA04MF1460) bearing a team-bhp sticker in MG Road area at around 9.30 PM.

It is like these few people who bring shame to our community.

Decided to try the alternate entry this morning on the way out from the airport.

1. The dirt bit is about 2 km long, and is nicely compacted mud and gravel for most part, but a big but it's impossible to see even 20' past your car if following another vehicle which could become a problem as parts of the road have already deteriorated and is very similar to driving on a beach. If you want your car to look like it just finished the Paris-Dakar rally go ahead and give it a try.

2. The dirt road and exit is not where indicated in various maps floating around but is off the first round-about as you enter the airport from the highway. This exit if it remains open will be past the new runway being built and exits at Bandikodegehalli Amanikere and not near Mylanahalli.

3. If you go right at Bandikodegehalli Amanikere you can join the expressway at the Jade Garden stoplight (ITC factory) and avoid the tool booth. All the cabs were doing this.

4. I wanted to try and see how much shorter the new exit was to Budigere Cross, but ended up making a wrong turn at Bandikodegehalli Amanikere/Mylanahalli junction and returned via Bagaluru - Hennur which in a way turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It took me about 35 minutes from the airport drop-off to the Hennur/Ring Road junction on mostly well surfaced 4-lane roads with scant traffic. Anyone living Hennur/Hormavu/HRBR should really consider this road.

The wife took some pics on her phone, will post it when I can get a hold of it.

Cheers.
