Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Due to the ongoing strike by the cab aggregators, the roads all across Bangalore are a breeze!!!
A pleasant surprise on Monday morning
Was able to reach my office via Chika-banaswadi flyover- mukunda theatre route in 20 minutes which would normally take 40 minutes

Especially the route from Yemalur to Prestige Tech Park via Kariyammana Agrahara road a.k.a the dirt track. ☺

Was it there on Sunday (26th) too ? I felt the Hebbal to MG Road stretch unusually fast moving during Sunday lunch time, seriously wished if the same could be a reality whole week

ITPL to Silk board in flat 1h15m by Volvo City bus today as against an avg time of around 2hrs. Reached Silk board at 8.30 pm. Do the cab aggregators alone contribute so much to the traffic mess in Bangalore?

~100,000 cabs on the road, you bet they do.

I've seen empty bits of road in parts of Bangalore these last few days, I'd forgotten what they looked like without a jam!

Trailer breakdown between PSN Gate 1 and 2. Avoid this stretch unless absolutely necessary. Since this is between two U turns, there will be chaos and the truck is bang in the right lane.

Any idea if the Cab aggregators are on strike even today?
Yesterday the traffic was sparse.

Yes the strike is still on. Also today the bank staff are also on strike. The traffic is so sparse that I made to office in 25 mins. I am loving this 90's side of Bengaluru.

I actually started late (at around 0915Hrs from EC) and reached ITPL by around 1020Hrs. Looks like the Uber & Ola folks going off road itself has reduced quite a number of vehicles on the road. The banker strike may also have contributed a bit to this as well.

I think more than the number of vehicles its the indiscipline that they show while on road that contributes to the traffic. Double parking, driving slow, lane cutting are some of the main issues with them. Hope the government and BMTC atleast wakes up now and come up with :

1. Proper scientific planning of routes.
2. Reduction in bus fares
3. Inducting and introducing more buses and routes.
4. Keep a upper limit on the number of cabs (Not sure if this could be done).

This would atleast resolve some of the mess.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Roads definitely were much more empty today. But one thing confused me. Where are all the people who normally take these cabs? Not all of them can/will take auto's or buses. I would have expected the number of private vehicles to be more and fill up the space left by the cabs. That does not seem to have happened.

Edit: Or it could be that the supply is now really greater than the demand.

Could be the case since near my office the ITPL main road sometimes experiences slow moving traffic after a bunch of cabbies park by the side and close almost one lane of the 2.5 Lanes each side.

IMO, it can be safely assumed that the kind of road manners shown by these cabs also plays a part in worsening the traffic condition. Most of the roads I took today had much more organised and calm traffic. Reached office in 40 mins though I started late today. Had it been the regular scene, it would have taken close to 55mins at the same departure time.
