I had given lift to a gentleman working inside Ecospace last week. He was telling me that many occasions, it takes around half an hour just to come out of campus into ORR itself.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Talking of traffic jams and road blocks, I couldn't help sharing this video claiming to be captured on NICE road, Bengaluru and uploaded on YouTube three days ago. Please have a look and, if it indeed is NICE road, drive around carefully the next time you are passing through the area.

PS: Look at what the morons on the bike do towards the end of the video. Makes me wonder whether I should have posted this on the Bad drivers thread instead .

That's not nice road. Its somewhere in Gujrat I suppose and they don't seem to be Leopards also. I got a doubt as soon as I saw the video on WhatsApp as Nice road has lane markings.

This video has been in circulation this week especially on WhatsApp and I also received an update on it:
1. Those are lions, not leopards
2. The place isn't NICE Road, but Gir forest

Oops! Thanks for the correction.

Lions and Gir forests explain the nonchalant attitude of the bike borne youths. The animals and people must have got used to crossing each other's path on a regular basis .

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Yesterday evening, A colleague and I left office at 5:45pm. From Hosur side, after Bommasandra bridge, we got caught up in a huge traffic jam. When we were in the middle of this, colleagues sent messages that there is a huge jam in EC. At Veerasandra signal, I saw lot of policemen too. Here, I Decided to take a u turn back towards Hebbagodi and then again took a U-turn onto the service road on the right side. With this, I reached the nice road in 10 mins and on the main carriageway towards Bangalore was blocked completely. If not for the timely messages, I would've had to spend another 30 mins at least on the road. It was an unusually bad jam. Thankfully I escaped but I was wondering could've happened because nothing was visible on the road.

Later in the day, I came to know the reason in the local news channels and today morning in newspapers

For some one in Indiranagar, wouldn't travelling via the Hennur-Bagalur road be more optimal?

If and when the second entry to the airport is made available, then yes the Hennur-Bagalur route is an option, but the Hennur junction for about a km is a mess and the last time I took it got stuck for a good 30 mins and was really frustrating considering it took me only 30 mins to get from the airport drop-off to Hennur Cross!!!. This was just after the airshow and the second entry was still operational.

Alternatively you could still use the Budigere Cross option and connect up with the second entrance. This should shave off about 15 minutes from the regular route around Devanahalli.

Though longer, the Budigere option is just a much more relaxing drive and takes about the same time as any other route + I save 125 bucks on the toll.

What would be a good route to enter the campus (starting from near HAL Market, so take Old Airport Road-Bellandur via Yemalur or Old Airport Road-Marathahalli ?) and the route to exit in the evenings ? What are the good times in the mornings and evenings when traffic is manageable ?

I've heard horror stories, so quite concerned about commuting and hence all the questions
A bit late to see this post, but my few cents.

I live (I mean work) in ecospace for the past 7 years, and let me tell you the situation presently is much better than how it was one year back. They have done quite lot of regulations, restrictions around the Ecospace, which includes the sky walk, which has been a big relief.

I could not imagine to bring car once upon a time to office. Most of the evenings in those days the pile ups starts right from the basement. Now, except for those rainy days, it does not go that bad.

Yemlur/Marathahalli - Both does not make any much difference. But while returning back, I see that the Marathahalli stretch doesnt get as choked as the Bellandur Village roads. While in the mornings, it would be better to take Yemlur route, because otherwise if coming from Marathahalli, you need to go to ISRO U-Turn to get back on ring road.

Timings - Before 08:30AM get in to the Ecospace; Before 05:30PM Start from Ecospace. Atleast that is what I follow and looks to be the best time. (Not considering the the night shift timings)

My experience from this past Sunday - The Hennur-Bagalur Road has been recently asphalted from the ORR junction till just beyond Kothanur Police Station. A small stretch here had some GAIL pipeline work that has just concluded but the dug up portion hasn't been fixed yet and one lane on left is messy.

I tried going towards the Airport, but turned back at Bagalur where there was a traffic jam due to a local wedding. Roads were wide and newly asphalted till Bagalur but then it became narrow, so no idea how it is beyond that point. I also heard that the last stretch near the airport is a muddy track and work has been halted due to some 220MW electrical line passing below (they are contemplating moving that).

However, traffic was low, so even taking Hennur-Bagalur Road and turning off towards Kogilu and then going via Kogilu Cross, NH 7 (Airport Road) to the airport could be a good option. You could also take the Bagalur main road and get to NH7 and then the airport. Bagalur Main road and Kogilu road are almost parallel roads (both perpendicular to Hennur-Bagalur Road) and merge onto NH7.

*One pain point is the junction at ORR service road for Hennur Road entry, but usually cops are there even on Sunday mornings

Super, thanks! It's not late for me, still some time left, I was being proactive

That really helps, and I think those timings will work well for me too.

The roads are very good once you get past Bagalur. An Industrial Park (SEZ?) is coming up on that road, and if I remember right it becomes a 4 lane with street lighting !!!

Yes, the last bit connection from the boundary wall to the first roundabout is a dirt road for now.

That is the only KSEB mains connection to whole of KIAL 😦. KIAL is panic stricken at the thought of fiddling with it!

Today I saw a cab driver solving a Rubik's cube while driving.
I thought I had seen every possible weird things on Bangalore road's, but the Bangalore traffic never disappoints me.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

I had written about BMTC's safety initiative in this thread a few days ago. It seems the effort is yet to bear fruit. Killer BMTC has put another life (a man on a bicycle) to end near NTTF Peenya today. The driver is said to have absconded after the accident, leaving the bus behind. Local TV channels are running this news since morning.

Not to imply that a cab driver won't/can't solve a rubrik's cube, but I have a strong suspicion that it could be a recession hit techie driving his own car for hire or moonlighting during his time off from work . Related thread (Recession Again ?).
