This is the most recent notification I'm aware of. If they've issued a later one then they've managed to keep it top secret.

Maybe we should ask that Twitter account.
This morning BTP tweeted and put on Facebook the same old notification as mentioned by binand. It seems no change, but new 40 kmph speed limit signs on outer ring road is confusing.

the speeds mentioned are all "Unless otherwise specified" if there is 40 board, it is 40. If not, the general limit as per the notification applies.

nothing to do with GST. NICE always has revised tolls on July 1st. Roads were really bad last 2 years and it wasn't allowed to increase. With newly laid roads, NICE has increased now. I think the last revision had happenned in 2013

Oh is it. I asked the guy what is the increase about, he said GST. May be he just blabbered.
But the ecity elevated toll too had increased from 65 to 70 for car two way.

No idea about the BETL as it is part of NHAI and NICE is a private road.

Anyway, here is the latest toll prices
Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation-20170703_073918.jpg

And the previous toll rates

For cars, the increase is equal to around 1/6th of the previous rates (and then rounded)

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

JAM ALERT: BESCOM work for shifting lines happening bang in front of PSN Gate 1 which is in the middle of two U turns. Hence, expect a long crawl from beyond Zuri or extending upto Hoodi. Not a sensible option except if you are going to PSN or ITPL.

I hope they will re open the U turn near Gate 1 once the work is over - the traffic was already piled up when I came in today morning, from Zuri till PSN Gate 1.

The confusion is that new signs of 40 kmph speed limit came up on the left side of the road (ORR Marathahalli - Bellandur) as seen in the picture, while central median still have the old speed limit signs of 60 kmph for car and 50 kmph for two wheeler.

It could be a badly (wrongly, in this case) placed sign - speed limit of 40kmph applies to the service road, and not to the main ORR carriageway. It is the same way on Hosur Road as well. The main carriageway has the usual 60kmph speed limit, but the service road is limited to 40. the signage is quite unambiguous on Hosur Road.

It is just a ploy by BTP to keep your analytical skills polished.

Not many are blessed with the power of deduction, so BTP has taken the onus. While you sit in your car/cab which crawls at <15kmph on ORR, your left eye sees signs showing 40kmph limit and simultaneously your right eye sees 60kmph. It gives you a chance to exercise your grey matter.
Kudos to BTP.

Yes, NICE toll increase has nothing to do with GST.

It was last increased in 2013 when they upgraded a few stretches to concrete. Back then it was flat 15% increase across segments. This time the hike is not flat. 2 wheeler toll is increased the least. Cars and Trucks have seen around 15 - 18% increase.

This toll increase was not at all warranted. For the road infra they offer is not world class and the upkeep is not great. For example, wear and tear will dull the white lane marking and lane separators. They do not bother to re-lay the white stripes periodically. Most of the lane markers are dulled/washed out.

Also when they correct a small segment of road, they do not ensure that the lane markers are relaid. The patch remains unmarked forever.

And NICE road charges the highest toll/km in the country. They know that they have another 10 years before their hold on the money collection expires. So they will milk the customers to the max until then. Since, customers do not have alternative, they do not have much choice especially during peak hours.

Fully agreed with you, the road quality is very Ordinary. Compare it with even Bangalore Airport Road, or ORR in Hyderabad, this road feels very ordinary. Road is completely uneven, feels like traveling on boat in tar section.

Tolls charged for such low quality road is so high, an example, Kannakapura road to Tumkur road is charged almost Rs 100/-, while the same distance in Hyderabad ORR(Gachibowli to Bangalore road) is Rs 30/-(used to be Rs 20, now increased by Rs 10), for a road with 8 lane, superior tarmac, well maintained lovely urban garden in-between the dividers.

Original plan was to provide road to Mysore road, while in reality even after 10 years its not materialized, while NICE is enjoying with exorbitant toll and huge real-estate land it got around Bangalore.

Although agree with your post, don't confuse it with the Bangalore-Mysore road. These are 2 different projects and both awarded to NICE/NECE corporation. One is the Peripheral Ring Road or PRR (Actually half-ring from Hosur road to Nelamangala Stretch) and the other is the BMIC. BMIC starts from PESIT to Mysore with a connection to the existing Mysore road. PRR was completed in 'tar' as per agreement. BMIC was never completed for various reasons. Whatever is available of the BMIC, is done in concrete as per agreement. The other half-ring of the PRR will be done under the Bharath Mala Yojana and will be completed by god knows when.

BETPL also revises their rates on every July 1st. They maintain a constant fare through July 1st to June 30th.

Am not too sure if the high toll charges could be attributed to the high cost of land acquisition and also the unofficial money spent on "approvals".
