Rather than calling it Tragic Box, I would call it Traffic Box. The gap is sufficient enough for a car to pass through. May be this was OK for the 90's .

This jam is always because the police allows vehicles going towards airport by removing the temporary barriers.

To witness the road driving culture of this amazing city. Please drive after 10 PM on any of the city roads. On ORR, the culture is in your face.

PS: Africans stay at home.

Aha, Spitfire back in the forum! Good to see you back.

But yes, that was a sad incident. No words. At all.

Once, two cars, mine and a cabbie, were making a turn while it was green and 10 seconds to red. 2-3 bikes broke their signal and barged in, forcing both of us to hard brake. Using this as an opportunity, the other biker pests made their way and soon the signal turned red. We were sitting ducks, until the cabbie used his "experience" in hurling abuses and bullying, to make way. The cop at the signal was enjoying the road show.

@Chetal_Rao - they're not "exploiting" a gap, it's rightfully theirs, and those precious seconds they save can make the difference between, well, crapping inside their pants and crapping in the loo

Just saw a tweet from Dr. Saleem regarding temporarily making Madiwala, Hosur and Sarjapur road 2-way to facilitate road work.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Was it just me or the traffic on hosur road and sarjapur road was very heavy for a saturday afternoon? Could see a long jam at Hosa junction at noon. The 2 and 3 wheelers were barging in from all roads, irrespective of the signal.

The U-turn in front of Trinity Acres on Sarjapur road is now closed. To go towards Sarjapur when coming from Haralur road, one has to now go all the way till the signal at ORR-Sarjapur road junction and take a U-turn

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Bangalore is completely haywire and un-sustainable.

It took us 1.5 hours this morning at 1015, to reach Brigade Orion from HSR.
We spent another 1.5 hours there meeting a friend and client and seeing their roadshow.
Returning from Orion to HSR - 2pm to 330pm another useless 1.5 hours.

Thankfully I elected not to drive. Uber came to the rescue instead.

This kind of commuting is a needless waste of time, energy, fuel and creates immense, un-necessary personal stress....

Unless these great "powers that be" in the wonderfullexcellentos KA Govt wake up and provide an accelerated Public Transport solution to the Tax Paying Public, this is going to fuel mass emigration from this otherwise lovely city...

The traffic from IISc to the flyover is just pathetic. In spite of the underpass that they have created, does not help one bit. It has pushed the problem to Yashwantpur flyover.

Typically this should not be that bad at least to get to Raj Bhavan. Because you can go through Malleshwaram and arrive at the entrance to Sankey lake. But if you get stuck in that signal, it can be catastrophic.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Major jam at around 9:45pm from just after Brigade Metropolis till the left turn to Mahadevapura main road just before the HP office. The road has been closed and all vehicles are turning left into the mahadevapura main road. Looks like the road is finally being relaid clap clap

Does anyone know why in the world BMTC drivers almost always stop metres before the bus stop where the road is narrower? Just excites them to slow down the traffic. Faced this twice today causing lot of stuck traffic. First, near BEL circle towards HMT. There is a bus stop where the road is wider, but all buses decide to stop metres before this where the road is narrow. Why don't people wait at the bus stop? That way the driver has to come till the stop. Next, same thing again on old airport road. Then it gets even worse. The driver decides to stop in the middle of the road for a passenger who is in a hurry and almost gets knocked down by a car when getting off the bus in the middle of the road. Madness!!!!

Doesn't seem to be the case today. Hosur Road was on-way between Madiwala Masjid/Total Mall/Madiwala Police Station and St. John's signal. Madiwala Market road and Sarjapur Road between St. John's signal and Krupanidhi college signal was also one-way as before.

It inconveniences people coming from Haralur road and wanting to go towards Sarjapur, but traffic flows better in the opposite direction, ie., Sarjapur Road-ORR signal towards Sarjapur. The problem was when people who pull over from in front of Big Bazaar want to make a U-turn at this now-barricaded gap in the median. Now, they have to go towards the Haralur Road junction and turn around.

I wish this was true. I'm still waiting for the mass exodus.

Yes, as they the Eagles sang "you can check out anytime, but you can never leave"

Goes without saying that Bangalore continues to attract lot of people from all parts of the country and elsewhere simply because of the opportunities (or perception about them!). Case in point is the government owned "IT parks" in smaller towns like Shimoga, etc that have low occupancy, you can read more in recent news reports.

Also, people who've lived here many years and "settled down" will resist moving out and the keyword that keeps them going is "hope" - hope that things will get better soon coz there's no life without hope.

A Chief Minister by virtue of his designation gets some privileges (whether we like it or not). Getting preference in traffic is one such privilege. The police also is a "necessary evil", and no point in wishing for some revolution to come in which would just remove this force.

If these three people had gone away, at least two-three police men would be suspended and reported for enquiries. It is their job, their salary which is at stake. Yeah, we can say they are all corrupt and all that, but they for sure would think differently. I don't know how many of us would deliberately allow a slip to happen during our job shift, when we all know the punishments to come after that.

By the way I have seen ambulances allowed to cross road junctions etc., when the VIP convoy is at a decent distance away. The control room folks know the exact location etc., and they take the call.
