I need to catch a flight scheduled at 4:30 pm today. What is the ideal time I should start from my residence near HAL Old Airport? Plan to take KIA-4 Volvo bus from HAL Old Airport. Web check-in done and I will directly walk to the security check point with only hand bag. I never took a flight during afternoon hours from KIAL, hence seeking suggestion on traffic situation.

That goes right through Ulsoor and takes Nandi Durga road to hit Mekhri circle. Today being Friday, the entrance to Nandi Durga road is usually jam packed - Friday prayers at the mosque.Spent almost 35 min last Friday at 2 pm to cross that junction. Since you are taking the Volvo, I suggest you leave at 13:00 to 13:30.
around 2 hours bus journey should take you to the airport at 15:30 to 15:45.

Google maps is today showing the regular route from Silk Board to Richmond Circle. (pre white topping). Has anyone taken this route off late ? Need to travel in an hour. Updates welcome. Thanks

This is a more practical option, IMO
If I were you, I'd take the metro all the way to Majestic, and then take KIA-9. The advantage is, KIA-9 services are more frequent than the other airport services. It's better to start no later than 13:00hrs.

Ah. Been there, bitten by. During weekday daytime the travel time is 1 hour 45 minutes, so you need to start by around 2 PM from HAL. But - KIA-4 has a break between 12 noon and 6 PM where there is no service.

+1 for taking the KIA-9 from Majestic. It takes the relatively least traffic prone route that time of day, and service is frequent.

Majestic > Golf Course Road > ITC Windsor > Palace Grounds > Hebbal > Airport.

What?! Seriously?! I don't think so. They may have reduced frequency, but I don't think service stops, except very early in the mornings. Took this snap of the timings while I was waiting for the airport bus just last week at the Jeevan Bhimanagar stop, which is just after the HAL gate where the bus starts.

Anyway you can always call the phone numbers and confirm.

Let's encourage more people to use public transport please, especially this airport bus which is a perfectly good alternative to the cabs.

What I would normally suggest is to take a Cab till Esteem Mall. From here, each and every Airport bus has to pass the place. HAL Airport to Esteem mall in a cab will be an hour's affair even via City route around post noon time.

I once reached the HAL stop thinking the same; but found out that the next bus was only after 5 PM. Had to take an auto to Mekhri Circle and take the first bus that came my way from there.

Update: Here's a screenshot from the airport website. I have marked the gap.

Update: Traffic is being allowed both ways from Adugodi signal. There didnt seem to be too many cars taking the route so it may have not too crowded. However didn't take chances lest there be a block somewhere down the road. Came through the double road route.

Their scheduling antics have caught out many an unsuspecting passenger.

I used to take KIA-11 from the PES Engg. College stop in BSK 3rd Stage often, but they started re-routing or simply canceling some buses without notice so often that I switched to KIA-9 from Majestic instead. I notice KIA-11 now only has eight buses the whole day, not worth the risk.

They started KIA-11C (now KIA-10) from Mysore Road Satellite bus stand, but it's slower than KIA-9 due to its route passing some major traffic areas.
