Isn't this extended mostly due the current Metro work on ORR and specifically this junction? Enhanced due to lane deviations.

Traffic restrictions to one of the busiest and most free flowing (usually) amongst Bangalore's arterial roads, the KIA elevated express highway, in connection with the Aero India event at Yelahanka Airforce base

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Going to be mayhem on 16/17 February. I have a premonition that GoKA will declare holiday for all schools/colleges nearby to AFS Yelahanka.

Most schools and colleges have already declared online classes for the next week in light of the situation. Expect delays and confusion as BTP usually doesn’t know how to handle such high volume events and first few days will be complete chaos.

To add to our woes, I think KIAL itself is going to embark on its periodic large scale inspection and maintenance of its runway as well as the roads etc. I believe that during this month KIAL users will also have to face disruption and inconvenience.

Wasn't aware. Have they? I hope they all do as 16 & 17 will be utter mayhem!

Hi Shankar, where did you read/hear of this? I'm surprised, as they now have the second parallel runway (RWY 09R/27L) which is reasonably capable of handling the current load. The original runway (RWY 09L/27R) was also comprehensively recarpeted in 2020-21.

In one of the internet articles it says ‘routine maintenance’ activity.
Hence posted.
I am unable to locate that article since.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

Bengaluru is now world's second slowest city to drive in the world after London. According to the study, one can travel 10km in Bengaluru on an average of 29 minutes & 10 seconds while London beats us by taking 36 minutes and 20 seconds to travel the same distance. Bengaluru is also ranked 5th with respect to CO2 emissions during rush hour and is ranked 4th for time lost due to traffic.

Re: Rants on Bangalore's traffic situation

10km in 29 mins? Which part of Bangalore has been considered for the study?

With metro diversions and increased truck traffic, I cannot achieve that even at midnight on ORR..

Seems like the report mentioned CBD. So that can be anything within 5 kms of MG Road . This being an true representation might be debatable since a major bulk of the traffic in Bangalore also flows through the IT corridor from EC to Hebbal where the same 10kms can take anything from 20 mins to One and a half hour.
The same report including suburban areas ranks Bangalore at 5th which still seems low based on the pile ups on the arterial roads. For sure it does not take 23mins to cover 10 kms in the suburban areas.
The report shows that travel times have increased by ~10% against same time last year. This again seems low since travel times have easily increased by 30%-40% given the metro construction and people returning to offices.

I believe its the average time taken to travel during peak hours across major roads in Bangalore and not just in and around IT corridor. Maybe the reason why it doesn’t seem so high.
