There seems to be something more than meets the eye. Nana does not have power steering. Also the report says that there was an AC fitment. Both works require tinkering with the engine & its wiring system. Either or both could have been responsible for the fire.

One thing is for sure. there is some serious problem with the vehicle. With only about 26000 vehicles on road (Correct me if i am wrong) , hearing such cases every month typically makes one very uncomfortable. Personally if i had booked the card, i would have cancelled it in case of non-delivery / sold it off in case i had got it.
Tata definitely should stop its delivery and rectify all nagging issues. If it had been any other business house, probably people would have filed PIL also.

What are the guys at Tata Motors doing? Sooner or later there is going to be a fatality, and then all hell will break loose.

Who fitted Power steering and AC in a brand new Nano ? If this dude was so keen on a car with PS and AC he should have bought one rather then letting some garage to fiddle with wiring of a brand new car.

If he has paid 2.4L for the car, it is safely assumed that the car is the top end variant that came with an AC and PS fitted from the factory. The journalist goofed up (perhaps?).

Top end comes with factory fit AC & PW (not PS).
Pretty sure the journalist goofed up here.

this is serious now- wonder why the media is downplaying this- are they waiting for someone to die and then make this big? Maybe we can in our own way make people aware and think again before buying a nano!

Horrific situation! He only just drove out of the showroom, before his spanking new Nano caught fire. That is clearly a manufacturing defect somewhere in the electrical system.

Top-end Nano is not kitted with a power steering.

I stand corrected. Thank you. The point was that the reporter goofed up somewhere in his report and made it sound as if the fitments were aftermarket.

Tata recently recall old model nanos and replace starter motor , an exercise worth 110 crore indian rupees. Hope this issue is rectified. We can observe long term user reviews from Tata nano 2012 users . Moderators, can we close this discussion?
