Anybody has any clue on OMR? How are the conditions between Madhya Kailash and Sholingnallur? Need to rescue some friends and relatives who are stranded.

@turbo..please share details. We can provide some updates. Share street address or something.

Many would have been rescued already to shelters and drier spots. But do share.

Last update and confirmed update

"Travel update: All roads from Mylapore - Mandaveli - Adyar - Adyar Bridge - Kasturbai Nagar - Madhya Kailash - OMR - Tidel Park is clear."

One family is behind the Aavin factory. Another two families are in Perumbakkam. They were planning to come to Sholingnallur in a tractor but they will inform us on what to do. All inputs will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Both areas under water. Perumbakkan inner areas are neck deep. But mostly apartment areas so people are safe. But water is not receding fast.

We have asked few volunteers for some status.

re: Traffic and life on the roads in Chennai

People,
1.OMR is perfectly dry except for areas near Sholingnallur( went only till there). Water has come down in most of the places.
2.You can only cross the Adyar river via Adyar as far as things are concerned from this afternoon. Kotturpuram bridge is still closed and probably Saidapet too.
3.You can access Perumbakkam via Siruseri and Medavakkam side.
4.The ECR link road between Perumbakkam and OMR is blocked, full of water.
5.Porur lake has overflowed into the Tambaram bypass, about one feet of water.

Things are getting better in Chennai.

Has anyone thought of using drones to distribute food, clothing and other stuff? It's so much simpler than using helicopters and men wading through floods to distribute stuff. If drones were deployed in select areas inaccessible by any other means, a lot can be done in my opinion because I still see posts on Facebook where people are fine but left starving without food and water and the problem cited by volunteers? Inaccessibility. Drones can solve that and more.

Have you seen this video?

And after watching, you need to read this also:

“An unmanned vehicle cannot be used in Mumbai without seeking the requisite security clearance. This includes aerial vehicles. The outlet never approached us for any permission. We learnt about it through the media and have demanded an explanation,” Additional Commissioner of Police, Madhukar Pandey told The Hindu.

Yes I know the use of drones is unauthorised without prior permission. In fact a person was arrested in Chennai for casually using one. Given the appalling condition prevailing at the moment, such dubious laws should be temporarily lifted. Lives are at stake and such extreme measures are the need of the hour.

Sir please share his full name and mobile number and can ask around (I don't work in CSC but can check around). Most of the city was without power for past 3+ days and still many do not have power. Mobile networks are not working till this evening and even so its partial. I do believe every one should be fine but just not able to send any form of communication.

@CKranjan,

Guindy and surrounding areas were one of the flood affected areas. We can assure that help has reached those areas. But without an address, we will have to wait for network and power to be restored and rest assured you should be able to contact your brother.

If you have any details on address, it will definitely help to get more details on rescue and operations. Guindy in general is fine.

His friends have said that he lives near Hindustan University.
