The distance to Pallavaram will be about 0.5 kms extra and the roads are bad for about 0.5 kms.

The + side is the stretch is almost traffic free!

But everyday, I take this route as it is way better than having a new scratch on my car everyday from the infinite bikers on the Pammal-Pallavaram road.

Thanks buddy.I stay near Shankar eye hospital and use that nagalkeni road most of the time.But when i come home at around 2 or 3am,i am kinda reluctant(scared) to use that route as its deserted.
Any solutions for increasing the lighting or something which can blind the lorry drivers for a sec so that they can dip their lights?

Great to have a tbhpian nearby.We will have a pammal meet shortly :-)

I don't think it will be a problem to take that road unless you stop.

Go the defensive way, get yourself anti glare glasses. It can be ordered from any optical store.

Get better bulbs if you want to attack, Philips Xtreme Power, Xtreme vision or Diamond Vision

Nice thread but i felt in some places you were lil harsh. But i enjoyed it.

I get frustrated with highbeams. Somtime i will go in the way of the oncoming vehicle, stop him and give him my piece of mind. One day i experienced the same, i thought some silly Tata Sumo travel guys is irritating me and stopped my car in front of him only to realise that its a police Jeep. Then i adviced the police and vanished from the place. I never did that again after that.

Thanks.Will be visiting GP road for Philips X-treme vision bulbs and also use the alternative route to avoid this problem.

. Even i want to do this but what can you do when all the vehicles come with only high beam?
I want more powerful lights for self defense.
I don't want to blind other people but at the same time i don't want to get blinded by lorries and sumos.

Try LightForce (www.lightforce.net.au). You can find dealers in India as well. These lights are known for toughness and near sunlight experience. You also have various filters availabel to suit your need.

Oh Yes, this is quite insane. I read a news today in The Hindu (10th Nov, Chennai edition) , the incident happend on the IT Corridor. Three unmindful girls tried to cross the road by jumpimg over the median without noticing a two wheeler. The poor two wheeler was injured, his bike require a major repair and all the three girls were badly injured.

Everytime i pass by the IT corridor road i make it a point that i stick to middle lane.

However disciplined driver you may be, your life is always at risk because of the ridiculous, unthoughtful, senseless people like this.

I don't know about peak hours, but I cross OMR around 7:15 in the morning & see atleast 2-3 morons crossing the road & atleast once a month I spot a moron talking over cellphone & crossing the road.

There're 2 issues I see...
1. The overhead stairs; people are feeling lazy to use the stairs; yes probably as they find the stairs difficult.
2. The Govt could've constructed a subway; but the issue is, it turns out to be a dungeon for anti social elements in the night & soon to day.

So what's the solution? Construct a pedestrian cross with signal? I don't know what to state as there're flaws everywhere. The only thing that is required for everyone is to remain vigilant & have patience.

1 -> The landing for the foot-overbridges are positioned awkwardly or inconveniently or both, and most often at stinky places. Finest example, the one across the OMR at Kandanchavadi/Lifeline hospital. Then how would people use it?

Another one, in front of TIDEL Park. If there were stairs to both sides, people wouldn't cross to the Tiruvanmiyur MRTS station at the signal. Now the stairs lead towards TIDEL, but not to the junction. But at the other end, they've done something very commendable - a flight of stairs direct to the platform, for people who take the MRTS trains. It has many takers too.

2 -> Subways in Chennai??? No, thanks. Most of the subways are stinky, encroached by hawkers and anti-socials, and/or used by a lot people as their loo

For a subway, there is no better worse example than the one at Guindy. Even it is busy, people would still want to cross the road unmindful of the traffic hurtling towards them. And this is not only the able bodied men. I found women and old aged persons also doing it. Wonder what is the solution.

On OMR there is a skywalk across Pallavan Quarters and it is in good condition. But I find people still crossing the road. And it become difficult during peak hour with a bus stand near by blocking one lane and other lane blocked by crossing pedestrians. Wonder when we will ever realize how inconvenienced others are due to our actions.

Escavators to go up/dn and walkators to move on a flat area is the only solution - sure-shot success whether it be subways or over-head bridge (both are same anyway.)

Err... Escalators, right? If the similar sounding Excavator was the one, then it'll be a different scene

There's one such over-bridge on Sterling road. But, the lifts are not working.

Escalators? Bad idea! Most people are petrified of them. How often do you see 1 or 2 people blocking the escalator at the mall creating a huge queue behind them because they are scared to get on, or they will be trying to force their toddler onto it. This also happens at the escalator at egmore station.
Perhaps a 10 foot high divider will force people to take the over head bridge. Or will they start to bring ladders then?

+10000000...; well said. Till date I'm very scared to take the subway near Chennai central. And that too, all of them are impatient morons acting like traffic constables; simply wave the hand & cross the road. Ask them to this infront of approaching train if they really have nerves!!!

Oh!!! c'mon buddy; it would've not been constructed at a stinking place, it was being made to stink. Also its not possible to construct conveniently for everyone, especially when made public. Also its not possible to construct the overbridge bang opposite to the station. Somehow all these things leads to lack of only one thing - ENFORCEMENT!!!
