Had a tiff with the guy at an emission center who tried to pull a fast one by pretending that he was doing me a favour by giving a PUC certificate valid for one year. He asserted that a certificate valid for six months would cost ₹90 and the one valid for a year would be charged ₹150 as he has to do something in the system to help me.

I understood that he is a past master at manipulating the readings and validity. When I politely requested him to justify his demand for ₹150, he realised his game is up and started shouting that when I could afford a car, why can't I throw an extra ₹60? And that he has seen thousands like me .

I didn't budge and even got back the ₹10 change from the ₹100 I had given him (which I would have not demanded otherwise).

I must confess that I am not proud of the shouting match I played with that cheat but in the end I did what was right.

Re: PUC - Pollution Under Control ?

Is the one year PUC for BS IV vehicles valid throughout India? I checked all the PUC centres near my place (those on mobile vans as well as ones at the petrol pumps) and none knew about this. Everyone said that PUC is valid only for 6 months and they don't know of this 1 year rule.
Even the PUC certificate/paper provided doesn't mention this anywhere.

Yes it does here in your picture, but the ones that we get in Mumbai / Maharashtra it doesn't. Below my old certificate, sorry for the sloppy edit as I'm typing and uploading on my phone.

I had recently taken my 2016 Alto 800 for PUC check. The previous certificate was only for 6 months. The attendant mentioned that the 1 year certificate is only for 2017 vehicles, then had to talk to his owner and get it approved.

Re: PUC - Pollution Under Control ?

PUC became even more dearer with 18% GST being applied on the certificate issued by the service provider as per Authority for Advance Ruling (AAR) Goa region. The argument is that the services provided by the PUC issuer is not covered under SAC (Services Accounting code) 9991 and hence 18% GST will be applicable.

This is in response to the application filed by Venkatesh Automobile to waive off the GST.

Quote:
The AAR said that the government has authorised the applicant to issue PUC certificate on payments. "It is the service provided by the applicant to the customers on payment of service charges. Since the services of testing of pollution are provided on payment of service charge, GST is payable at the applicable rate," the ruling said

Re: PUC - Pollution Under Control ?

My PUC is expiring on 21st March 2019 and since it is HOLI and a holiday I decided to renew it today. Went to the same outlet in Lodhi Road which I am visiting annually for last many years.

The process had changed drastically from last year.

Last year's procedure : Centre will enter your details from RC, will click the number plate pic, insert sensor into exhaust, another magnetic sensor to the engine body, Idle RPM check, 2500 RPM Check. If passed, will print and deliver PUC.

Today's procedure : Centre will enter your details from RC, will click the number plate pic, will ask for your mobile no., an OTP will be send to that mobile no., entering OTP to system, insert sensor into exhaust, another magnetic sensor to the engine body, a connection to battery's both terminals, Idle RPM check, 2500 RPM Check. If passed, will print and deliver PUC along with a confirmation SMS.

So, is this the procedure everywhere?

Did PUC for Celerio last week, down at Coimbatore, since it was required for removing hypothecation. Nothing of this was done. Was the usual affair.

Re: PUC - Pollution Under Control ?

PUC certificate is again valid for only 6 months?

Just got it done & the fellow said it has been revised to back 6 months (& ₹125) for diesel cars in KA. It was valid for 1 year last time (Apr 2018) & costed the same ₹125.

Can they specify the period/expiry date in the software?

Is this some scam or is it really reduced to 6 months?

Re: PUC - Pollution Under Control ?

As far as I am aware, PUC certificates were always valid for 6 months for BS4 vehicles in KA.

Unsure of the diesel rate now but I just renewed my petrol Octavia PUC for 90 bucks / 6 months.

Re: PUC - Pollution Under Control ?

In West Bengal, PUC certificate is valid for 6 months. Renew for 4 wheeler costs 100 bucks. Good point is my renew centre reminds me over phone about my PUC renewal, also gives away gifts like documents pouch or duster(very useful) with every renewal.
