26/11 Parade in Mumbai

26/11/2009- 7.50am, Marine drive was swarming with early morning joggers. The morning sun and temperature was just right. Why was was I there ? to witness the Mumbai police 26/11 parade. We had company OB vans from all the possible news channels.the northbound road was blocked for the parade. Only southbound road with parking restrictions, was open. Police was out in full force (including traffic police at 7 am).
Also found something new, CM including DY CM have got a new ride, Bullet proof Mahindra Scorpios, instead of ambassadors.
The parade wished to show the assault force of the Mumbai police and pay homage to all those who lost their lives. The Quick Response Teams, Force one, the police band (playing Jai Jai Mahahrashtra maazza) and other policemen.Saw the Mi16 rifles ( Us army types) in flesh for the first time. Whether how effective the new forces are time will tell us. Remember the Police commandos and tourism police formed some years back.

Most importantly the wheels,

Rakshak jeeps (Bullet proof commander based jeep)

Marksman

Tata 1516 Armoured personnel carrier

Rapid intervention vehicles built on Bolero pick up platform

8 wheeled amphibious vehicle

Sea wheels- An amphibious vehicle which is a boat having aircraft style self propelled wheels.

All in all a good start for a day

Will post pictures in a while.

well i wish the parade would have been during the election time. Would be a great respect paid to the live lost during this tragedy.
Under 50% voting percentages are really sad

well drivers are suppose to be like that in indian police forces. did you see him carrying a gun?

the point of parade is>

1. building confidence in the public vs police vs politician (ruling party)
2. show off to the terrorists
3. gaining votes for next elections
4. money well spent
5. some one made good cut on these purchases!

I squarely failed to understand the whole point of the exercise. This is a botch up of already botched up operation. How is it botched up?, this might be an indicator

The Hindu : Opinion / News Analysis : Where style has trumped substance

How well the media has got the general public dumbed down that most janta is ready to accept what has been thrown to them.
