re: Bangalore Elevated Tollway

My wife's office bus is now - almost daily, stuck in a traffic jam ON this flyover when returning. To me, that appears like an end of its value-add a comparatively short while after it was opened.

IMHO, it was always a case of poor future planning. When initially designed, it should have had 3 lanes in either direction, which is not the case. Also, add the fact that it is rather narrow, and then you have a scenario where one slowcoach can cause a huge buildup of traffic for kms!

re: Bangalore Elevated Tollway

Actually the jam is on silk board side. There is a pile up on some days from Bomanahalli junction on the flyover!!!!! It's pretty silly that silk board flyover is always jammed as well as the turn in below the silk board flyover to go to HSR or BTM.

Yesterday I left from EC and 7:40pm and reached silkbboad at 9:10pm, jam started on the bridge just after crossing jailroad junction.

re: Bangalore Elevated Tollway

I was stuck from exactly the laybye from 8-10pm and it was 9-15pm when I got down the ramp. My office cabs leaving at 7-30pm have started to take the road from below and my colleagues have told be that it is definitely taking lesser time.

Yesterday, a poor ambulance also got stuck in this jam and each and everyone stuck in the jam tried to move to the extremes to make way for the Ambulance to pass but it then got stuck when a bus could hardly make way due to limited space on this bridge.

I am going to try taking the road below today to see it makes a difference and stick to it if it does.

re: Bangalore Elevated Tollway

Yesterday's jam was more because of the Silk Board junction rather than anything on the express way itself. I was stuck in the same jam too. Something needs to be done about the Silk board junction and the new right turn that has been introduced in front of the Madiwala polica station.

re: Bangalore Elevated Tollway

I feel that the previous arrangement was better in which the Hosur road was one way from Silk board side to St John's Hospital and the Sarjapur road and Madiwala road were one ways from St John's Hospital to Silk board. This one was approach reduced a lot of signals.

I noticed yesterday that the right turn from Hosur road to Madivala road has been stopped by putting barricades. That should improve the situation to some extent.

The problem in india is all rules exists on paper. No authority bothers to enforce them. If we hit the cycle by any chance, even if its the cyclist's error, We, the 4 wheeler or 2 wheeler owners will be blamed.

What was the reason for today morning's traffic jam ?

I was stuck in the Madivala vegetable market for almost half an hour.

i think some construction might be on and they might have dug up on the way. that was the case on the Hosur road (just after the underpass). they have dug it up on the left side and eventually only one vehicle could pass at a time.

when i hit the BETL, again people were keeping to the left lane and i was wondering why. a few feet later i figured why - about 100ft from the entrance of the BETL there was a five car pile up, which included a BMW 3series too!

after getting to office i heard that there was a accident below the BETL too. a truck had run up the divider it seems!

i left home at 9am and reached office at 11:45am (usually i reach just before 11am). my calf muscles hurt like hell!!

correction - it was a Audi A8

the vehicles involved in the pile up were (in the order of appearance) - Indica, Innova, Audi A8, Fortuner and Santro.

This seems to have happened after 9 am. But there was a huge pile up of vehicles all around Madivala even before 8:30 am. Road digging may have been one of the reasons, but I'm sure something else also happened.

I saw one Infosys bus and a tow truck parked near the Electronics City toll gate. I wonder if it was another of those infamous "Infosys Bus Breakdowns".

concentrate on the pile up; model doesn't matter

jokes apart, i noticed it was a A6 when i was looking at the pictures closely, but by then the edit window had passed. didn't want to create a post just for that
