@Rohan-
But there is an additional sentence which says balance will be adjusted in future recharges or something like that. Is it something like get OBU for 150 and they will deduct remaining amount from our future recharges.

I will enquire it in the evening.

I have already enquired about everything.

Don't worry about that statement (excess will be adjusted in recharge). What is basically means is - since the existing OBU customers have paid Rs 1000 as security deposit for OBU and now OBU is being offered at Rs 150, the excess amount of 1000-150 = Rs 850 would be adjusted in the recharge for the existing customers.

For new users, there are 2 schemes:
1. Monthly pass (Rs 1100 per month)
2. Balance based pass (Recharge in multiples of Rs 500)

For both schemes, security deposit for OBU is Rs 150.

So if you want a balance based pass, just walk in to the BETL office with Rs 150+500 and a xerox of RC book and walk away with an OBU. Application forms are available at BETL office as well as on their website.

I had not purchased an OBU till now because I am a member of car pooling. If we had to purchase an OBU for each of our cars (since OBU is car specific), it would have been quite an investment. But now with the security deposit for OBU slashed to Rs 150, all of us in the car pool have decided to go for OBUs.

There will be no validity period for Balance based system, but whenever you use it Rs 55 will be deducted from A/c, and for Monthly one, Rs 1100 for 30 days(not calender month) so if you use it everyday then 2 way will cost about Rs 37/-.

I use the calendar based stuff, what I remember is the display will show how much balance is there in your a/c (I might be wrong on this) and yea only cheques, I've been checking their site and the online payment option has been always under construction since a year now.

Wishlist: the system deducts money and you get the notification on your credit card for the times you have used the tollway, wish this was there across the country so you dont have to wait for queues and arranging change.

re: Bangalore Elevated Tollway

Eager to know how the balance based system works, Daily pass valid till 11.59 PM allow multiple entry (ie more than 2)

Here is a situation and I am looking for an answer :-)
1. You cross toll (1) and 55 is deducted from your account
2. You return (cross toll 2) and no amount is deducted
3. You do not use toll road on your return - 20 is reverted to your account
4. You again go back (cross toll 3) - How does it work in balance based?

If it works like multiple entry daily pass (55), I am heading to BETL office tomorrow :-)

Crossing toll (1) will deduct 35/- only
2. You return (cross toll 2) and no amount is deducted
Crossing toll (2) will deduct the remaining amount for a day pass i.e 20/-
3. You do not use toll road on your return - 20 is reverted to your account
Answer for 2 answers this question too.

Once 55/- is deducted (35 toll1 +20 toll 2), a user with the OBU can continue using the elevated section any number of times in a day before 11:59pm and no further amount shall be deducted.

If it works like multiple entry daily pass (55), I am heading to BETL office tomorrow :-)
I went for the OBU on last Tuesday and settled for the Balance based pass for a initial trial of Rs. 1000 as the recharge amount. Totally I paid 150+1000.
And yes, the only advantage that I can see here is that it simply works as a day pass and one doesn't have to wait in the long queues at peak hours but for a security deposit of a mere 150/- now, its worth it at least for me.

I use BETL only one-way per day (only in mornings). So this makes sense for me.

BTW, where is this BETL office? I wanna buy on OBU..

re: Bangalore Elevated Tollway

Guys, please visit BETL website. It has answers to all FAQs.

BETL office is near the BP petrol pump in electronics city. Just reach the BP petrol pump and ask anyone.

re: Bangalore Elevated Tollway

Balance Based Plan will have multiple entry option once Rs 55 is deducted.
Used it today for the 1st time(felt like a VIP).

Droping cheque is not the only option, you can visit BETL office and pay there for recharges. Those who gave Rs 1000/- as deposit, their balance amount is getting adjusted with monthly balance. And you can see the balance while crossing OBU toll booth, it will display.

The BETL website vaguely mentions that "At Grade Section" is meant for Attibele Toll plaza.

For coming to Electronics City, you should select "Elevated Section".

If you still have a doubt, you can enquire with the officer available at the point of sale or call them on the helpdesk numbers given on the website.
