Re: Strange sightings on the road

This is the first time I am seeing a bike on drips! I am not a biker so is this something that's usually done?

I am assuming that the bottle holds petrol.

This is the regular method to check fuel efficiency. The inlet pipe coming from the petrol tank is bypassed and the fuel is directly fed from the bottle. Generally, only a small quantity (100-500 ml) of fuel is poured into the bottle and the bike is run till the bottle runs dry. The distance travelled using the said quantity of fuel is then extrapolated to arrive at the approximate kmpl.

Not a very sophisticated or safe method, but certainly a widely used one.

+1 to what @dailydriver said above.

For cars, the rig is a little more complex, but on the same system. Had got the FE tested for my Sumo Victa about 12-13 years back. The fuel container was placed in the passenger footwell area, with pipes running to the engine bay - including a return pipe.

Re: Strange sightings on the road

Considering the opportunity for strange sights on our roads, this seems like a not so active thread

An overloaded truck with the load shifted precariously to one side and held together by sheer will alone

This might be the mother of the strangest incident that we would have encountered in life. Look at the way Mahindra Bolero gulps down the MPV

Has anyone seen something weird like this.
It's not uncommon. I saw one a year ago in Bengal while on a restroom break

That looks like a meter guage YDM-4 locomotive from Trichy shed. It is probably being transported to be displayed in a museum somewhere and since we don't have much meter guage tracks anymore, it is being taken on a lorry. That's just my guess and cool catch by the way!

Hope you both realized that you quoted a 13 year old post. Maybe at that time it was uncommon (maybe even today as I have not seen like till date).
