In my experience, not many drivers here are good/confident at reversing. They would probably not want to add that to an already difficult situation. Even I realised, a couple of years ago, that I had got very rusty at it --- so I put in some practice

Heights of ideocracy :

So I was patiently halted in the left-most lane on the WEH - JVLR junction to turn left on JVLR towards Powai, waiting for the signal to turn Green.

After about 30 seconds, the down left turns green, and the queue starts moving to take left to merge on the JVLR.
Suddenly, a biker, honking from the extreme left on left most lane to go straight appears in my left ORVM, and I, assuming he wants to take the left to JVLR, move ahead with slight throttle to execute my attempted left, leaving enough space for his left turn (yeah, I was considerate enough to let him take left, ensuring no potential damage to my vehicle).
Within a moment, I hear a minute thud, and upon checking, see the biker having dashed his front wheel on my left rear door (no major damages, just an almost invisible scratch).

The biker, also a gujju, starts yelling at me -
Biker : Khabar nathi padti hu horn maru chu, mare straight javu che ane tamare left javu hoy toh mane javado? (Don't you understand, I'm honking, which means I want to go straight and you wish to take a left, so you'll have to let me go first)

I : Hu tamara jetlo smart nathi, mara hisaabe left lane left java mate hoy, straight java mate nai (I'm not as smart as you, for me, left lane is meant to take a left turn, not to go straight, for which you have middle lanes)

While this 10-second dialogue happened, I started moving left-ahead and merged on the JVLR when the signal was still GREEN (the last 3 seconds), while the biker was standing there getting his act right, setting up his bike, probably angry, his ego probably hurt, waiting for signal to turn GREEN to go straight, from the left most lane

Result : I - 1, biker - 0

After the euphoria settled, I had a few questions running up my mind :
1. Are bikers entitled to enjoy right-of-way, even in the left most lane, designated for a down left ?
2. Are we, car owners, supposed to be careful to double-check if a few bikers aren't attempting to cross us when we want to execute turns meant from specific lanes ?

Anyway, lessons learnt :
1. Never give into the bikers' privileged mind-set of them being on a smaller vehicle, so they can attempt to ride wherever they want to!
2. Always, always, be double sure of morons not crossing your paths under any circumstances, in any situation - though I believe I was right, damage could have been far worse than just a minor scratch!

I then moved along to reach office !

WEH and JVLR have become death traps for bikers. Hundreds of undulations on the road, road surface alternating between no road to paverblocks to tar to cement creates gaps every few meters especially on the left most and service lanes. Add their own foolishness and you have a deathly concoction that Snape would be proud of.

I see atleast 3-4 bikers slipping on WEH every week between Borivali and JVLR junction and sometimes feel empathy for them but then they come up with such stunts evaporating my empathy.

Not to mention the dhoom dhoom biker boys who are on a life's mission to go vroom vroom between 2 cars and whisking their magic carpet just millimeters from your car, scratches be damned.

This section is very notorious. At times I have experienced heavy vehicles rollback due to the incline and not to forget the bikes who sneak in from the left if you even leave an inch.

Not very uncommon to see but indeed an amusing sight.

I'd also request BHPians to be responsible in posting pictures of people. One should at least mask their face if posting. In fact, clicking a picture in this way itself is incorrect but lets at least be careful while posting. Seen many delivery day pics with family members faces masked but SA faces not. That's again incorrect unless one got their approval.

Imagine one of us finding our or our family members pictures clicked by a stranger on road, wont be a good thing - right?
