a buddy bought a corolla.. its his dad's car actually..
its done about 1500 kms..
he rarely takes it out.. once in 2 months maybe..
and last night was one of those days !

we were out late and i drove it back..
this is around 2.30 am

there's a flyover close to where we live..
one way traffic.. 2.3 kms odd long..
and thats where it was meant to be..

it has been a while since i'v reached anywhere close to those speeds.. and what a car to do it in..
firm handling.. stiff suspension.. good road grip..
and most of all.. good BRAKES..

the interesting part was that thru the gears.. i was shifting between 4000 and 4500 rpm.. thats in 1st, 2nd & 3rd..

once i got to 4th.. stopped a few 100 rpm short of red lining it !
the power just DOES NOT STOP ! WOW !
i hadnt intended to go so fast ( thus the lower rpm limit in the 1st three gears )
it was just so easily done in the end..no fuss !

just as i had got into the driver's seat.. sahil had told me the 2 things..

1. to take it easy and change around 4000 rpm.. i was cool with that..

2. the previous top speeds in the car.. ( he was hinting ! )
his dad : 120
him : 145
another friend of his : 155
( and not another word on the subject )


..so i had asked him with a sly smile..
"u're feeling bad arent u.. the record being held by someone other than me" ! *

once i got to 160 i noticed him shifting around a bit in his seat..
when we reached 180... he cudnt believe it !
( he hasnt been above 155 )

what a drive the corolla is ! pure adrenalin !

Welcome to new age Japanese engines. The Corolla also has its own version of variable valve timing.

Very well-written, your excitement comes across in the post. I wish I had friends as generous as Sahil who allow me to touch 180's!

The Corolla is very capable car and speeds of 180 are very very achievable. Great account of your experience Hatari, shows that you really had a ball of a time . It aint a world best seller for nothing

Great stuff man!! Did u do 180kmph on the flyover??? It must have been really awesome but doing such high speeds on flyovers can be tricky and dangerous(dont wanna blunt the fun but you need to be careful)

Damm i havent gone past 140 kmph in my Corolla(dad's corolla...i have a cbz ) and that was on the first day!
And in the words of GTO no 1 and i mean no 1 gets to drive faster than me in my Corolla!

yeah the Corolla is capable of reaching speeds of around 205kmph (speedo indicated).

But the actual speed at 205 is just 191kmph.

In a straight line, there are very few cars in India that can beat the Corolla to the 100kmph and it can compete with the likes of the Mondeo, upto 150kmph.

yeah.. got a big kick out of it !
think it was mostly coz it was totally unplanned..till i got to around 130

the flyover i did it on is among the safest roads to achieve high speeds..
NO oncoming traffic.. there's a separate entry for that..
thick concrete wall separating both sides !
and coz it was so late.. didnt see any other cars on this side..

wish i cud have carried a "driver cam"..
both of us cudnt stop smiling for quite a bit after that !
