Re: Mugging in Bangalore roads - be careful! EDIT: More Incidents reported

Guys. What is happening in Bangalore? If so many of us are able to come across such incidents, why are the cops not able to cut it down. I have not heard or read about any of them being caught.

My brother lives in Viswa Vihar and I visit him quite often. I also drive to the airport once in a while. All these incidents are quite disturbing. Hope the cops are able to do something about this soon.

Re: Mugging in Bangalore roads - be careful! EDIT: More Incidents reported

Very disturbing indeed. I stayed in Bangalore for a week, earlier in January and was happily driving around with family, even late in the night. Now looking back, those area around Hennur cross looked quite unsafe - with with of barren stretch!

I agree with you. Their primary motive is to extort cash from victims. But removing card everytime is not very practical solution. One never know when he will come back to home.

Night hours of travelling is not safe in Bangalore anymore. Now I will try to remove Debit Cards and Credit Cards at home would try to learn to live without these cards.

Re: Mugging in Bangalore roads - be careful! EDIT: More Incidents reported

Guys,

Its true, it happened with my Bro Shiv too, couple of guys chased him in a Bajaj KT 100 stating 2 signals behind he hit someone & they wanted him to comeback to see the injured.
My bro was very sure nothing had touched his Zen Estilo & had heard about these cases before. They caught him parking near Sony world @ koramangala, mid noon !!. He spoke to them in local language Kannada. They kind of see how confident you are & how you much you buy inn the story. My bro has saved my My Number as ACP Sunil, so he just call me & showed the thugs that he is calling ACP on cell phone & asked them to talk to the ACP, they immediately ran away !!!.

Be Alert, Be safe
Cheers
Sunil

I feel prone to trying this out myself in future, but I hope they don't run away with my phone

Moreover I think this method has become obsolete now and most of the people know about this strategy. I wonder whether anyone is falling prey for them nowadays?

Re: Mugging in Bangalore roads - be careful! EDIT: More Incidents reported

Here's the latest incident circulated a few minutes ago by our security personnel

What : One of our employees commuting to office late in the evening & taking lift by a passing cab was abducted, assaulted & robbed.
When : December 15, 2010 at about 9.45 pm.
Where : Near Hope Farm, Whitefield, Bangalore.

How :

1) Employee boarded an unsolicited & passing cab which already had 2 occupants
2) Two other passengers made our employee sit in between them.
3) Instead of dropping him at ITPL Main Gate, it drove past his intended destination and blindfolded him.
4) Occupants of cab threatened our employee with a knife and took away cash of Rs. 300/-, Sodexho Meal Pass worth Rs. 1000/- and Mobile Phone,
5) Miscreants made forced attempt to use his HDFC Bank Debit Card to withdraw cash from 2 or 3 ATMs, but did not succeed due to intentional wrong PIN fed by the employee.
6) Employee sustained injuries on his person while offering resistance.
7) Assailants pushed employee out of the car in a secluded place near Bhattrahalli, Hoskote and sped away.
8) Finally, employee walked some distance and managed to contact his colleagues in the office by using a villager's phone.
9) 3 colleagues from office engaged a special cab to rescue & escort the employee to safety.

Action :
a) Employee was escorted to Vydehi Hospital for medical examination & treatment and given 6 sutures for cut injuries.
b) Lodged a complaint with Whitefield Police Station for investigation.

DO's :
1) Avail public or authorized transport
2) Never take unauthorized / passing cabs (gypsy or unsolicited) on the road.
3) Travel early to avoid last minute rush.
4) Never compromise on personal safety.

Bizzare! Really getting into extremely dangerous levels.

I guess employers should send out a circular to the employees asking them not to take unknown / passing vehicles.

Re: Mugging in Bangalore roads - be careful! EDIT: More Incidents reported

Sad to hear these incidents.
Part of the fault lies with the person for boarding an unauthorised cab. Instead he could have got into an auto or arranged for a taxi.

This is utter foolishness. I have seen lot of these IT guys taking lifts at various places on the Ring Road, Whitefield and Hosur road to save a few rupees.

As far as I know most of the companies do send out, but the employees do not pay heed. In fact in our company, the security guys regularly conduct hourly webinars every quarter to pass on the message.

This bloke is new to the town and the company. Never he would have imagined such an encounter to welcome him.

But yes, this is apparently of his own negligence.
