If they can find another smashed up OHC with an intact roof, it may be possible to fix it up good for a reasonable price.

Really sad and sorry to see the car in such a state GTO. Commiserations to Avinash.

In fact like another member mentioned, when it was up for sale, I had all the thought of picking it up. But again was put off by the transfer of registration from Bombay to B'lore etc.

Hope Avinash gets over the shock soon.

Very tragic end. One of the best known cars on this forum meets rotten luck.
My sympathies to both Mr.Avinash and GTO. I can imagine how hard it must be for both of you. And yes gauging by all those threads I know how fond GTO was of this car. A very sad and unfortunate end to a machine like this.

I really hope that a miracle happens and you guys end up retaining the motor.
Although it will be impractical and expensive to buy a used 'OOHC (ordinary old honda city)' and plonk in that V-tec motor. That in a way can keep this car alive in a way other than that in memories. Okay, am getting a bit emotional now.

Warm Reagards.

No amount of work is going to replace this OHC, and what it meant to Avinash - and GTO. You could transplant the powertrain and other parts into another OHC, but it will not be the same. Truly, that was a one-of-a-kind machine.

I can kind of feel what Avinash is going through : reminds me of the time I lost my 3.2TL a few years ago.

To Avinash, I'll say only one thing. That baby would have meant the world to you. But to the people in your life, you are still there. I would hate to see any more damage than what is now - not that I care less for what has happened. So, hang in there, my friend.

thats really unfortunate demise of the beautiful car.

Shouldnt that builder be held liable for the carelessness which has resulted in this loss ?

Terrible news, BUT the car is very much repairable, the damage though seems a lot, I see no "total loss" I have personally seen cars in worse condition repaired to as-good-as-new. But to each his own.

He's chugging along, I guess. Hope his financial losses are minimised, and that the search for a vRS starts soon!

I'm a big fan of the combination. Hard to get the body colour + wheels absolutely right, as this car did.

Have spoken to him about this option but he doesn't sound too keen.

Ever heard the engine note

As mentioned in the OP, the car was parked at Powai when this happened. I guess you used to spot the car at his earlier residence?

Yes, the car can be repaired I'm sure. But the monocoque is so severely damaged that it'll be hard to make her drive the same again. Plus, the crumple zones are also heavily compromised.

Thats tragic GTO. I really feel bad for the occupants and your beloved VTec. Hope Avinash copes up with everything really quick. The OHC Vtec is still a gem of a car, and will be remebered many decades later too. Sad, the 1677 had a bad crash.

Thank you Dear Bhpian Friends!!

Dear Friends,

I really want to express my heartfelt (whatever is left of it) gratitude to you all for all the kind words and support!! Thanks a Ton!!

Thanks Rush, for posting the pics on the forum and for all the help throughout this tragedy.

My sincere apologies to you all for not posting earlier, but I was just too shocked to see my beloved (VTEC) in this state, ruined for no fault of her or mine, and I couldn't do anything to save her! And that still is the most difficult part for me to accept. I just cringe at the thought, what if somebody would have been inside the car at that time?!
But yes, this has left me so shaken, I am not sure if I can dare to dream a VTEC ever, just out of the fear of ruining it (thanks to my luck) again! I know it's just a car, but for me (and for any bhpian friend here) it was and will always be much much more!!

Thank God I have my family and friends by my side who've stood by me in this difficult hour.

The insurance formalities are still in process, hopefully, will be hearing from them soon.

Thanks once again for all the support guys, you really have made me feel better today! Hopefully, I shall be able to start a new chapter sometime soon....

Occupants? Crash?
Er..guess you need to go through the entire thread. Or first few posts at the least.

Need not curse your luck or anything, It just happened and as you pointed out, am glad no one was inside or near the car when it happened.

And hope that the new and forthcoming chapter turns out to be the best ever! Take care.

regards.

Thanks! your're right, it's just that it's (luck) the easiest to blame.

Insurance/Repair Estimate Query!

Mods,

This is slightly offtopic, but since the thread is about my car I thought of posting this query here. Please move suitably if you feel otherwise.

Recently Linkway Honda informed me that after the insurance company decides the fate of the car (total loss/major loss), if I take the vehicle out of their workshop (in either case), I need to pay the parking charges (for the number of days it was parked, 150/day) and 5% of the estimated repair costs (5.70 lakhs) as estimation charges which they did for the insurance survey. Is this the norm?! I am ok with the parking charges but what about this 5%? Don't want to pay so much (30k approx) for a car which is almost ruined! Can anyone please help me with some info on this?! It's kinda Urgent!

Thanks!

yes you have to pay the parking charges, but 5% of the estimation cost is load of bull crap 28 k just for the estimates is daylight robbery. You can ask the insurance guys to speedup the process by talking to the surveyer, but from my experience they are going to offer you a amount much less than the IDV, do not try to remove anything from the car now as the insurance guys might use that excuse not to payup. If it gets delayed more than 10 more days file a case keeping insurance as the first party and honda as second, also claim for all these charges and some extra for the mental agony, you should see some results.
