R-I-P Vtec (1677). Farewell, dear friend

You will remember that I sold my OHC Vtec to a BHPian : Thread Linky. And how the ol' girl still had it in her to put up a mean show Link to Vtec Dyno run.

I have some terrible news to share with the community...the Vtec has been totalled. Good news is, no one was hurt. Bad news is, the car is gone (nearly). As told by Avinash to me, he's in the process of relocating back to Hyderabad. Parked the car at a friend's place in Powai (since Avinash's temp residence in Mumbai had street parking) and proceeded to Hy'bad to complete his job formalities. Car was standing still when a part of the building fell on it. WHAM! The roof completely caved in & the monocoque is severely damaged. The engine, though, is untouched and probably ready for another sprint to 7,100 rpms. Talk about bad, bad, luck.

The car that taught me what its like to live on the redline, that served dutifully for 7 years, a car that redefined the meaning of "driver feedback" and had the best revv-happiest engine I've owned till date. I am devastated, but more than me, is Avinash. Really sorry to hear of this, pal. But hey, just give the go-ahead and we'll screen the entire market for another clean Vtec / RS.

Insurance is currently evaluating the claim. Avinash, if they decide to take her away, give me a call, will ya. Would like to see her one last time.

thats just sad. sorry to hear about it.

butttt, since the engine is untouched, why not take it out of the car and keep it. you might just find some use for it since it is in such good condition.

Sad news indeed, yet the good part of the news brings some relief.

Car isn't mine, that's for Avinash to decide. Based on our convo so far, he isn't keen on repairing the car. The monocoque is too severely damaged for the car to ever perform properly. However, your post has just given me an idea. How about Avinash buying a cheap 1.3 and swapping this engine into her bay

GTO,

Terrible news.

The business model that our country follows is - BNR - Build, Neglect, Re-build. That portions of a building ( or a bridge or a waterpipe simply fall apart) is because we do not know the meaning and the effort behind the activity called 'maintenance'. Obviously the BNR model is a godsend for vested interests because B and R mean capex.

Be that as it may, I have a few queries:
1. Is the bodyshell damaged beyond repair?
2. If so, and as the engine ( and the transmission and the suspension and the dare I hope the chassis are intact) can fitting new body panels enable cosmetic surgery for the lady?
3. If # 2 is possible, what kind of expenses will this entail?

Regards

Bad news indeed, why not make it a convertable , If you wanna suggest him to swap the engine of a 1.3, you should even suggest him going the way ford rocam went.

Sad news indeed. One really gets attached to the car they own and drive over a period of time and it hurts to see the beloved vehicle in a damaged shape.

darn! last i saw this beast pic, it was gleaming and shining away to glory! this is really sad!

As suggested Avinash should pick a 1.3 and fit this engine to it, and ofcourse get the same paint job too!

Sad sight.
Must be painful for the new owner who managed to get hold of an extremely well maintained Vtec and it had to go this way. Sad indeed.

If the car is declared a total loss, would the owner get to retain the engine? I don't think.

Shucks man! That is a painful sight. So carefully maintained and beat of many a heart, this is not what it was meant to be for. Tough luck Avinash.

Sorry to hear about this. I'm sure Avinash must be devastated. But at least there was nobody in the car at the time. Hurts to see a good car getting totalled like this.

Talk of bad luck! A stationary car getting totalled!

As someone else pointed out, if decalred a total loss, would Avinash be able to salvage anything from the car? I seriously doubt the engine can be reclaimed in this case.
