Thats an expensive ticket! But its good that you got away with just that.
A friend's brother got into a major mess once, after being involved in an accident. He had to shell out close to $6000 for all damages. Lucky for him,an affluent family background helped him through.

@pervez. coming to cops arresting your friend, once my neighbour saw me star gazing in my telescope (observing venus and mars) and thought I'm setting up a missile launcher. I was surrounded by 7 - 8 cop cars, and helicopter support. Luckily, the cops came over to me only to realise that the "missile launcher" was just my telescope mounted on a tripod!
As a parting shot one cop asked me, "why don't you do this in daytime sir"?
He then slapped his forehead and quipped, "How silly of me. No wonder you are an engineer and I'm a cop".
Dont know whether it was a deliberate attempt on his part to crack a joke to make me laugh after a few tense minutes. But I laugh thinking of it now

Excellent! There is one more joke similar to this.
Engineer, Doctor and Chruch Father want to play golf.
They reach the Golf course only to find the course booked
for the day for Blind people as a rally or something.

The 3 cursed their luck but when they learnt it was for a noble
cause, they regretted. The Father said 'I'll pray to the Lord for them'
The Doc said "I'll see if I can help them with some treatment"
Engineer reasoned "Why can't they play in the night ?"

Was he involved in DUI?

If I would have been fined that amount - God knows what I would have done!

DUI? don't think so. DUI and accident means a certain jail sentence. just DUI would mean hefty penalty. Yet again, DUI punishment varies across states.

In most states a DUI (above limit (0.8)) itself is enough for a cop to arrest you. Let alone a crash.

From the handbook: The arresting officer will confiscate your license.

relax guys, it's the crumple zones working. a car that survives is no good if the occupant is killed of whiplash.

our own mahindras and ambassadors can that well. doesn't make them a safe car.

I understand that - but the volvo continues to amaze me...

Volvos are among the safest vehicles on the the road. I would rate them at par if not above the Mercs and Beemers. They are built keeping in mind the tough Scandanavian climate and road conditions. I don't see much damage there other than a dislocated bumper and a slightly damaged exhaust pipe.
