I remember reading this news in today's Marathi daily (Sakal or Maharashtra Times don't remember), but they didn't report any fatalities.

Orange Route Update:

Some more layer of tar installed over past few days and work is going on full speed. Painted lines would give this blacktop a fantastic look.

I asked a traffic cop on this sudden focus on that route. Apparently, they are getting this road done to take the load of heavy vehicles. Once this road is done, all buses will take this route to connect to the highway. The Mezza9 Route is narrow and has significant both side traffic. The road to Wakad flyover will be for LMV/2W with reversible lane the way it is implemented today. Let's see how that works out!

But how fesible would it be crossing nullah in bus
I do not think making new bridge short of arrangement over nullah would be easy both time & political will wise!

<Afternoon Rant>
The various options for us Hinjewadians (the name's stuck and it sucks)

Route 1: Wakad flyover-Hinjewadi Chowk
Pros: Shortest route, good road condition
Cons: Heaviest traffic

Route 2
: Orange route (Bhumkar Chowk to Hinjewadi Chowk)
Pros: Good road to avoid traffic congested Route 1
Cons: Pathetic road just before Hinjewadi Chowk, might cause congestion at the bridge

Route 3: Mezza 9 route (Bhumkar Chowk - T-junction - Mezza9 to HJW Chowk(left) or Ph2/3 (right))
Pros: Good quality road
Cons: Narrow road, vehicles cutting lanes without indicators

Route 4
: Pashan-Sus Road - Chande village - Phase 3/towards St. Laurns-Hinjewadi Chowk
Pros: Traffic free road, fresh air
Cons: Bad quality road
Remark: Will cost less infrastructure cost to develop this route, with a bridge to Phase 1 as well (connecting near Tamanna Hotel)

Route 5
: Bhumkar Chowk - T-junction - right - Petrol Pump - Embassy Tech Zone
Pros: Great route for people working at Embassy Tech Zone (IBM, Atos, Geometric, Synechron)
Cons: Not open to other companies as per rule, dirt road of 20/30 metres
Remark: Set infrastructure, 2 options: either open Embassy Techzone passthrough or build a road fencing the property or better build a tunnel through Tekdi towards Phase 3, probably will open at iGatePatni Phase 3)

Route 6: Baner-Mhalunge-Chande village - Phase 3/towards St. Laurns-Hinjewadi Chowk (not navigable - maybe on a bike)
Pros: short cut to Hinjewadi
Cons: Not navigable by car currently
Remark: Again infrastructure is there, need to build a good quality road, great route for Baner, Aundh, Balewadi folks. Maybe build a bridge to Phase 1

Route 7: Bhumkar Chowk - T-junction-right - dirt road - Wipro phase 2 (not navigable, scary on a bike also)
Pros: another route to Hinjewadi
Cons: Difficult to navigate by bike even
Remark: Another case of infrastructure being there, and need to 'pave' the way

Route 8: Chandani Chowk - Paud - Pirangut - Megapolis - Phase 3
Pros: Could be a foundation for proposed ?? Ring Road
Cons: Too long, pathetic stretch between Pirangut and Megapolis, illegal toll gate after Chandani Chowk

Sometime in very very very distant future: Maybe there will be PTP managed app on Android and/or iOS p/f depicting traffic at each route and the recommendation to reach Hinjewadi

There was a post in this thread some time ago wherein people had marked out the various routes available to get into and out of Hinjewadi.. the routes were marked with differently coloured lines which were superimposed on a google maps screenshot of Hinjewadi. The route that goes straight from Hinjewadi Ph1 towards Hinjewadi village and on to Bhumkar Chowk (The highway grade separator) was marked in orange colour - hence the name "Orange Route"

Re: Hinjewadi Traffic Issues

Rahul, glad that the rant did develop in many route options, to the huge crowd called Hinjewadians. Im sure most dont even know other options.
Thanks for compiling this!

Question: How bad is the Nande-Chande village route?
I take the St Laurn route to Ph3 on a daily basis and thats pretty driveable.

Thanks rahul. Really useful. A superimposed on a google maps screenshot of Hinjewadi for above roots will be great guide for those not aware of all names.

Not yet appropriate for a sedan. The portion between Sus Road to Nande village is in a decent condition, but once you pass the bridge, the road detoriates and is like that till you join the St Laurn route. Easy for a bike or a SUV, but if you take a sedan, then your average speed on that patch would hardly go above 20-30 kmph.

What an excellent post! I only wish there were images to it - guess I'll get it done later! Btw was following your car yesterday evening - you should get the pashankar sticker off (the one under your rear lights)

When was the last time you went through this route? There is no (proper) road once you cross the Ramky housing complex - I tried this using a bike - wasn't that pleasant a ride. Btw you missed out one more route - hardly one that would be used, but still a route for the record.

Route 9: Chandani Chowk - Paud - Pirangut - Hanuman Chowk - Chande Junction - Megapolis/Phase 1
Pros: None. Just a good option to visit the country side when one is on bench.
Cons: Not navigable by car currently
Remark: A lextra ong route to spend free time. For the stretch between Hanuman Chowk and Chande junction, the river accompanies the road giving a beautiful view.

This is great. All possible routes summarized in a single post. I didnt even know about Route 7!!

As for Route 5, I dont think they check the vehicle stickers or I Cards when entering Embassy Tech Zone premises from the dirt road or when exiting the premises. So theoretically, it should be possible to use it. At least till someone wisens up!

<RANT>
The security chaps at the Embassy main gates make a pretense of checking even the boots of the vehicles entering the main gate but they dont check:

1. Vehicles entering from the rear (dirt road)
2. Trucks / Tempos and other assorted commercial vehicles

Don't ask me the how they figure that giys entering the premises from the main gate with ID Cards are a potential safety hazard but not the others

Pros: Shortest route, good road condition, near-empty road from Phase 1
Cons: Heaviest traffic (till Hjw chowk)
Remark: Route from Phase 1 to Megapolis is a two lane road with hardly any potholes. Traffic is less ensuring almost tension free drive. However the distance goes up by a few additional kms.

Hinjewadi Traffic Issues-route10.jpg

Route 11: Wakad underpass - Hinjewadi Chowk - Ph1 - StLaurns - Maan village - DLF
Pros: Shortest route, good road condition, near-empty road from Phase 1

Very useful post by rahul and thanks ninja for the maps. I notice you used Wakad underpass where you probably meant flyover and corrected it in both your posts. Wakad underpass is the same as Bhumkar chowk.

During the commute this morning, yet another of Tar is being laid on stretch near Bhumkar chowk. Me thinks they are building an elevated road, layer-by-layer.

A layer is also laid on the earlier stretch between the nullah and HJW chowk. This layer does not carry all the way to the chowk but ends say 50 yards short. Just before a humongous crater filled with water.

During the morning commute, ifIf one chooses to take a right before the chowk and exit at the KPIT T-point, A warden is also stationed there to ensure smoother traffic merger.

Steer clear (literally) of the following jerk of a driver :
Black i20 Asta CRDi. Aftermarket alloys. Opaque glasses. MH 14 CC 800.
Have seen him driving like an idiot multiple times in the past too. Decidedly uncivilized person.

Re: Hinjewadi Traffic Issues

Oh, you did come across this sorry excuse of a human being too?
I have had the unfortunate opportunity to meet this not so great man, a few times.
Latest being last evening, where he kept honking incessantly for no rhyme or reason. Finally the patience ran out and had to give him the finger!

Grapevine is, the Mahalunge road work might begin afterall. Not that I believe this, but does seem like a glimmer of hope to me.
Hope that's true.
