Just Read this news in DNA:

Bangalore airport road toll illegal: Karnataka govt - Bangalore - DNA

Quote:

Terming the collection of toll, which commenced on Sunday midnight, illegal, minister for transport and home R Ashoka, who visited the plaza, said the NHAI had not taken permission from the state transport authorities before commencing the construction of the toll plaza at near Sadahalli Gate.
What was they doing all these days? The whole world knows about the toll coming up here.

Seems it has been Ransacked by the activists. Saw the news in Hindu front page.

Not just ransacked, i also read about a lorry killing a toll collector early morning , in a freak accident. It was the toll collector's first day at his job.

I think it is only these guys through their insane acts who can get the toll shifted; the general public would not be able to do it!

The Govt. always maintained that the toll was illegal because of its positioning but of course the Govt. and NHAI must be hand-in-hand for the toll to have finally materialized.

PS : I think the truck killing toll collector bit might have been just an accident.

IMO, its just an eyewash. The KA govt. should be very much involved in this, else how come the contruction of toll booth were constructed without even a wimper from the state govt. particularly with the minister's cars passing that route too often.Suddenly the state govt wakes from the slumber and gives a statement and appear to be on the common man's side.:Frustrati

For the first time in life I finally have some respect for the local activists:D

Instead of all this nonsense, they could merely charge a Rs 10 cess on each passenger as part of the ticket and earn a lot more!

The toll construction started last year and the politico's would have traveled number of times on this stretch.

Feigning ignorance that they had no clue of this is an attempt to eye wash the public. After all the construction has definitely fetched them quite a packet. :Frustrati Now more tax payers money will be spent in demolishing the toll structure and moving it to another location. So much for planning in India's IT Capital. :Frustrati

I've been thinking, is it not possible to outsource governance (government and its activities) to a private body that is transparent and committed to development of the nation or state?

You think the guys vandalizing the booths know jack about toll, BOT, NHAI, etc.

These are goons. And that is public property they are destroying. I am surprised to see support for such acts. OK I know you are joking but the message does not come out well.

Another thing to note. NHAI does not come under the purview of State Government. Sleeping or not, they are aware. They don't have a veto on whether what should come up where. Again the State Governments Statement about it being illegal, is well a statement made by people too much into their own ego trip and to align themselves with the general public sentiment.

Do not even think of it. Just look at the way US has gone. Sold out openly and totally to market forces. Even the so called elections there are sham. Corporates decide who will go to White house.
There is no escape to evil greedy nature of man.

But then that would go to the airline, right? How do NHAI's coffers get filled?!

Ultimately, the state Govt. is hand-in-glove with NHAI; although the Govt. must've told NHAI they will oppose it in public just to make masses happy. They don't have to care anyway, toll will be waived off for official vehicles.

Moral of the story : if you're a common man, pay up.

Slightly OT.
Do not know if anyone on the forum pointed this out. Happened in month of Feb 2011.

In Greece "I won't pay" anti-toll activists take over toll plazas, force gates | TOLLROADSnews

I am just wondering is there an alternative toll-free route to the airport which may take a little longer time.

Yup from Hoskote. Whitefield residents can take this route. From kadugodi to NH207 and then take a left for the airport. It joins after the airport and you need to drive back towards the airport.

Toll on the Bangalore Int'l Airport road-airport.jpg

Distance is 50kms from Hope farm junction. Roads are decent. During peak hours its the fastest.

The outer ring road route from Hope farm to the airport is 45kms.

Why don't the NHAI build a service road like the Nelamangala Toll road? If users did not want to pay toll, they could use the service road.

Seriously, without providing alternate roads, they should not have been collecting the toll:deadhorse
