re: PICS : Spotting of Indian models in foreign countries

I have been looking for an Indian manufactured car here in Dublin over the last 2 weeks and haven't spotted a single one, no TATA or Mahindra .
Pictures of cars featured here in this thread are mostly car manufactured for the global market.

Related Thread : What Indian cars are available abroad?

And, believe it or not, I had spotted a Bajaj Scooter at a Boston Superbike shop. Will try sourcing the picture.

Re: PICS : Spotting of Indian models in foreign countries

Spotted Tata Indicas in many african countries inclusing lesser known ones like Ivory Coast and Ghana.

Spotted many Mahindra Scorpio's in Dubai.

No surprises in the above two statements.

I was more suprised to find Bajaj Pulsar in Dubai and a Hero Honda Splendour in Senegal

Polo, Fabia, Getz, i-10 and Swift etc are global cars manufactured in several plants all over the world. I would'nt really call them 'Indian cars'

Saw a very familiar looking scooter on Atlanta roads circa 2005. Overtook and it was a Bajaj Chetak. Googled and found out it is actually sold in the US market (Still is - bajajusa.com).

When I was employed with Mahindra tractors, every once in a while, there would be the export order shift. I've seen a few at JFK used for hauling the baggage carriers.

Re: PICS : Spotting of Indian models in foreign countries

@hellstar

That looks to me like a 1st generation Safari, what could properly be called as a truly Indian car. Its pretty rare here in India right now.

Could you say how old it is??

Also, I had heard that Safaris were used by some emergency services in the UK. Anybody got any pics??

Re: PICS : Spotting of Indian models in foreign countries

Buddy, all cars featured in the pics are actually Foreign models that were later launched in India.

we go abroad for the work purpose. We move around in public transport. Along with missing our family, a small(or all of it?) portion of our heart is missing our favorite ride back in India. and then you spot your car model and joy rushes through you.

So what about sharing such joy here on TBHP? I want to start such thread where everybody is requested to put pics of spotting of Indian car models outside India.

To start with, let me put some of my spotting in Toulouse, France.

really surprised to see this:

similar to Santro? But this one is from KIA motors, seems to have made copy from their Korean brothers:

Among the car models in India, VW POLO and FIAT Punto are the most popular cars here. an old punto:

After Peugot 207, an renault cars, VW polo puts itself in the popularity chart:

Micra is definitely expected to be spotted in France

Guess this one:

Getz:

and the hottest car from indian market:

I always keep looking for i20 and spotted it once, but was in bus myself. so couldnt take pictures. :(

Haven't seen any of those Indicas. But reasonably better number of Safaris in Italy.
Now that is quite true to the thread header! A Safari abroad! Love that

Spotting a Swift, Polo or Fabia is no surprise as those are global cars. Most of them launched abroad before they got into India

Scorpio is sold in Malaysia. I remember seeing a test drive report in Autocar Asean (shared publication for Singapore & Malaysia)

Well that could be because Indica was originally designed by the I.DE.A Institute in Italy, who also have designed quite a few Fiat models.
