I was going to do just that ram, but seeing the number of posts such as those, by me, that the mods have dubbed unnecessary and deleted, I retired the thought.

It is not a diplomatic car! it has come under carnet de passage. a travel document that allows you to bring a car into inda for 6 mnths and then request another 6. allowing a total of 12 mnths. You have to leave a 500% bond of the value of the vehicle till the car returns.

thanks for clearing the kuwait plates speculations.
are you sure that the carnet value is 500% bond i thought it was less somewhere around 100% value of the car declared. i have friends who had gotten cars down this way, never really asked them but this was mentioned in talks unless it has been increased.

i tried it from london. over there they asked you for 500%. but there you have the option of taking an insurance policy for 10% of the 500%. which is 50% refundable when the car returns to the U.K.

how would U.K. laws work here my friend. why would you have to pay even 50% if you are bringing the car back to the U.K. dont quite follow this. it would just be reentry of the car. you pay a bond at the Indian customs to bring the car into the country without paying duty for it as long as the car is taken back in the speculated time period. a certain fee is deducted and the rest is returned to you.

so that means you end up loosing 250% oif the value of the care just to drive it in india? or is that 50% of the 10% of the 500% ? (with the cost of the hummer - thats still a crazyA$$ large amount! )
