Re: A Bentley joins the family

Hey Manuuj,

Heartiest congratulations to you and your family :-)

I am extremely thankful to you for sharing your buying experience with us, it felt as though we all have come with you to purchase this elegant beast. But alas, I am more than disappointed when I see my garage and don't see the GT there :-( This feeling is thanks to your narration.

Kudos to TBhp, for giving us this platform where we can have knowledge of a TVS Scooty to Bentley GT.

Hey Manuuj

I guess I am quite late. But well, I am reading your posts in this thread since the day it was released just didnt post due to sheer shock to see a Bentley owner here. Congrats and Happy miles with it. And it would be really nice if you can make a video of its interiors, startup(engine roar) with some accelerations and finally video of it in the night(interior and exterior). I hope I am not asking too much!!

Hi manuuj,

Holy Ravioli! So THIS is what it feels like to buy a ultra luxury car. Thanks for sharing the experience with us mortals. This thread had me hooked, and I drooled over those photographs like a man in a desert looking at a bottle of cold water. :-) Phewwwwww!

Congrats on buying an English classic. I love English cars especially the Bentleys and Aston Martins. A real class apart.

Wish you and your folks many many years of safe and happy journeys.

Cheers!

I have to admit, fell head over heels over the Brooklands. It looks massive especially rear quarters. And the interiors are amazing. Just got pissed off at the whole Alpine stereo thing. Could have at least been B&0 or something similar in nature.

Re: A Bentley joins the family

Hey Manuuj, congratulations on the purchase of the beast. I really like the pics uploaded by you and am anxiously waiting for the long drive report.
I have a few questions in mind -
1) Will the dealer be able to change the dash board trim as precisely as the factory ?
2) What model is the RR phantom coupe and how many kms has it done ?
3) What was the asking price for the RR coupe?
Thanks,
Aditya

Congrats on the purchase to your brother and you Mr.Manuuj!

I'm pretty sure you're the envy of your neighborhood!

Hopefully some of us can experience that euphoria one like you must feel when staring at that Bentley in your driveway . Nothing really certifies your "I made it in life" status like a Bentley or a Rolls sitting in the driveway.

@Manuuj: Congrats, aren't you going to customize your precious set of wheels? Change the upholstery and add a bigger subwoofer or bigger bling, something, just joking man what a ride and what a life. Happy tip toeing with the Bentley.

How about adding a W140 as an escort car.

Thank you so much for your warm words and wishes driveanddrive. As of now the GT has been put under the cover and parked up for a bit. We are planning a trip to Rajasthan for the explicit purpose of stretching its legs. It will make for some interesting pics and videos!!

There are some videos on youtube of other Bentley GT's doing the same, but are not of very good quality. I shall try to make some better ones and share them here.

Thanks for the wishes my Italiano friend!

There is something about Cars which originated in Britain. They may not have the best engineering and are known to be..errr...temperamental but they have the best interiors i have ever seen.

The design and materials are brilliant but what really sets them apart is the execution. When the Range Rover joined our family in 08 i thought it had the best interiors till i saw the insides of a Bentley.

RR has sadly lost some of that design panache in the interiors since their adoption by BMW.

In that respect VW has done well not to give the interiors of the Bentleys a Teutonic flavour and have allowed the "British Gentlemans Club" theme to prosper under their reign.

I had to pick my jaws up from the ground when i saw the Brooklands buddy.

Even though it was the GT that i was asked to scrutinize originally once i had seen the Brooklands i forgot all about it. As you may have noticed there are a lot more pics of the elegant Brooklands than the GT even.

It was the driving experience that was the first blow, but as its not suited to my brothers driving and more to my sedate stlye i was ready to let that pass.

You are not supposed to throw a Brooklands about like some crazed Latino doing the Salsa or a Rumba on his second date. Its more suited to a gentle Waltz in the Autumn Ball.

The GT of course can do both very well including its own spicy version of Dirty Dancing when the massage seats are set on "ecstasy" mode. ;-)

The Alpine stereo with its reluctance to return CD's was the deal breaker.

Thanks for your wishes Aditya!

To your first Q i will say.. yes!

The dealer has staff trained in England and regularly carry out repairs on these cars for very discerning clientele who would be acutely disconcerted if the job was of an unsatisfactory nature and therefore would voice their chagrin in no small measure.

In simple english..the clients who pay so handsomely also punish with equal generosity.

To your second and Q number three, I must confess I shall be unable to render any accurate counsel as so mortified was i, by the insides of the RR Coupe, that i gave it no further examination or scrutiny.

Sitting in the driveway is correct sir, as that's where these beauties spend a generous portion of their lives. Not due to rising costs of crude but to the falling standards of our roads and general traffic manners.

Thanks for your wishes D33-PAC!

I have asked the gentleman who own that establishment called "Pimp my Ride" to contact me forthwith. I think a nice Candy Orange with some Green pinstriping is in order.

Hahaha!! Thanks for the wishes DD! :-)

Dont you think 4 Nanos at each end will be better? ..but how they will keep up is the Q to consider!

Re: A Bentley joins the family

One question I forgot to ask, didn't you heart, for once wander into considering the two Italian artworks parked inside the showroom?

I know you found the SS itself a bit harsh on the ride and the Lambos ain't gonna be any better. Or is it cos you are more into understated touring cars than flashy supercars? I can't help but wonder how one could buy a Bentley after they walk into the same dealership where Lamborghinis are parked!

Good point Scorcher. The Bentley was the Original choice for a variety of reasons. These i shall surmise below:

1. Usability: 4 seats, higher ground clearance, large boot, comfortable ride.

2. Tourer: The Bentley is more suited to long road trips and countryside touring than a Lambo where Indian Roads with their potholes and speed (suspension) breakers are concerned.

3. Understated Elegance: We would represent very faithfully the classic cliche of men in a mid life crisis if we arrived anywhere in a Candy Yellow Lambo screaming for attention.

The understated elegance of the Bentley was more suited to our taste and age.

Of course attention could also be had in buckets full by simply tapping the extreme right drilled steel pedal in a greater degree than usual.

That gentle burble and menacing roar alone would ensure a small army of jealous boyfriends hopelessly clutching onto their swooning ex-girlfriends. ;-)

4. Heritage: We have a penchant for British Brands.

5. Availability: The GT was available and the Lambo was not. Even Ferrari was considered but the waiting list that stretched into the next year put him off.

6. A Bentley GT is a Bentley GT

Re: A Bentley joins the family

Was the Muslanne mentioned anywhere in the thread? I just read about the car, it has the same engine as the Brooklands and it seems it's amazing to drive, comparing it to the Ghost and such but I don't think it should be as entertaining as the GT. And ofcourse, the feel young factor is there in the GT. But heck, I just feel the Muslanne is unique.
Oh..and it comes with the Naim stereo which apparently is the best OEM stereo system ever to come in a car (that's news to me!). But with 2200 watts blaring from 20 speakers, I guess they could be right :-)
