A lot of bollywood yesteryear stars were very fond of cars. As we have the Mercs today as the must have-if you have to show you have arrived in Bollywood, symbol, the yesteryear car was the Chevrolet.... the Chevy Impala no less. But there were others who bought lesser known cars (that the Impala, in India or should we say Bollywood)
Rajesh Khanna was very fond of cars. He had amongst his Famous Impala, a host of other cars like the 115 Mercs, the 115 coupe now belonging to a collector friend, a Lotus Elan which he gifted to his wife) and so man other toys.
Ashok Kumar and Kishore Kumar the Ganguly brothers also had a lot of cars in their stables. A Riley, a Jaguar and a Daimler parked alongside a Buick Electra and a Chevy Nova SS.
Ranjeet had a Barracuda which is also in the collection of a collector friend. Sunil Dutt was another car crazy guy much like his son is today. He had in his stable at least two Mustangs (a 72 and a 69), a three series BMW Alpina tuned coupe, a mercedes 230 SL Pagoda amongst others. Vinod khanna was another who was particularly fond of suvs.
A lot of actors owned a lot of big convertibles but a few were a cut above teh rest and went in for the real Mcoy sports cars and now what we call collectibles. Mind you, even back then, the mercedes was a status symbol and a car to have and flaunt.

Here is Ashok Kumars Riley. Orignially owned by an elderly Parsee couple in Hyderabad, it was then purchased and fully restored by fellow TBHPian Vellappan Sukumar. He sold it to a Hotel owner, who passed it on to Ashok Kumar, who passed it on to Ramesh Thakker, who passed it on to a prominent Guthka company owner in Kolhapur. Phew!
