Audi sells the 2 liter TT in India that makes 200 odd horsepower. Would that make it any less of a sports-car? Toyota / Subaru recently co-developed a sports-car with a naturally aspirated 200-horsepower engine. It's still a hoot going by qualified drivers who've reviewed the car. Porsche will be down-sizing the engines in their Boxters and Caymans shortly and you could expect them to have 200-240 horsepower.

Outright power is not everything in a sports-car. In a super-car, maybe? But in a sports-car, what really matters is nimbleness and handling.

I've been driving a petrol sedan with nearly 180 horsepower and I've found at times, that it's a bit much! As far as I'm concerned, 240 horsepower is plenty for a home-grown sports-car, considering that the only 'sports-car' India could boast of was the San Storm. And the lesser said about it, the better.

Hope this makes things clear.
I too felt the EcoBoost's 240 BHP is well enough for the car. Maybe it limits the 'burnout-ability' of the car, but for any purpose that has a reason behind it, this is enough. And it'd definitely be better-behaving to mother nature than a 5.0 ltr 500 BHP monster in this car, 70% of whose power will be used for nothing better than show-off and flair.

The Toyota GT86, as someone mentioned earlier in this thread( co-developed with Subaru) is any day a better choice and fun to drive car than many of the cars with double the power(Based on reviews.)

No Airbags? 90s manual AC controls? Is that really a 35L car?

Here we were blaming manufacturers for not providing airbags in a 3L car!

The brochure seems to have interior images of the versions which were displayed at AE'14.

The following post on page 8 of this very thread only have the image of the updated interior:

Read this official brochure story here http://autoportal.com/news/dc-avanti...ails-2291.html
Is it true? The brochure doesn't seem too good to me. Also heard it has a Ford Ecoboost engine. Will it be able to perform like a supercar or the shape alone is the criteria to prove it as a supercar?

It's not a supercar, by any stretch of imagination. With 250 bhp moving 1600 kg, it will do a 0-100 run in about 7 seconds. How well it handles around turns is anybody's guess since no one has reviewed it yet. But I wouldn't be surprised if an MX-5 with 158bhp would run circles around it on a track.

What constitutes for a sports car..2 doors 2 seats rear mounted engine an amazing sounding sports tuned exhaust. I have personally started the vehicle and trust me it sounds amazing. The Ford Eco boost engine is one of the best engines ever produced in regards to fuel economy and performance very similar to the Honda V-Tec engines. Vehicles like the Ford F150 have an eco boost engine. The effort of DC Motors must be appreciated for taking a step towards full filling dreams of Driving an affordable "Sports Car" what other car in regards to looks and performance can we get for ₹25L + Taxes in India. None!

Not one accessory under Rs15K!
Reverse Camera Rs25K!
Car Cover Rs18K!

And Airbags? Priceless.

This reminds me of Richard Hammond saying in Top Gear "The Perfect Road Trip" episode that "Really the car is the cheapest option!"

Hope at that price they will be providing infrared camera mate!

The options list provided is insanely pricey. If I were to beef up the stock avanti with almost all those options, the extra cost would be 17-18L.

At the same time, including glove box, storage areas under standard equipment list in a car set to cost north of 30L. Could've included steering wheel, pedals etc too! :P

Well, I dont think so. For Ecosport, the camera kit was 25k at the time of launch (obviously, they have reduced it now). It was a normal camera with IRVM display. So if Ford can do it, I am not surprised if DC comes with ridiculous price list.

An irony really. One of the key differentiators of the DC Avanti could've been how highly you can customise it. Personalised cars are big on the 'feel good' factor with enthusiasts...goes to explain why so many of us modify our cars.

But with the way that the options are priced, few people will see any sense in opting for them. A lost opportunity if you ask me.

Well-priced options had the potential to also increase the overall sales of the Avanti.

Really was hopeful DC would tap into the yet untouched territory of affordable sports cars in our country. By this pricing strategy,I don't really see them anywhere close to it.A BMW 328i would be the best bet in that price range IMO.Better built, better tested, practical, snob value, outright fun Kinda makes me wonder...how long should we wait till a manufacturer decides to make something like an 'affordable sports car' for India? :(

Does anyone else see airbags included in the list? I see only ABS and no airbags.

A super expensive sports car without airbags?

For all that carbon fibre used, it is still on the heavier side with close to 1.6 ton weight.
