re: The DC Avanti Sports Car : Auto Expo 2012 EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 36 lakhs!

Spotted it on mumbai-pune expressway. Actually there was a group of 3 DC avanti cars. I guess testing was going on. I followed it for a bit and observed that the suspension would have been set up too hard or was completely missing , as the car was jumping so much while i was crusing comfortably behind it.
Check the assembly of the headlights if possible, they were joined to some metal plates jutting out of the body work. May be a temporary fix, but that not how you do it.

Top speed of 180 kmph and no airbags? Which part is 'sports' in this car?

re: The DC Avanti Sports Car : Auto Expo 2012 EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 36 lakhs!

Have seen a Dark Orange (more like a maroon with an orange tinge) at the Gurgaon Hghway, near the IFFCO Chowk DC Office.
couldn't click pics since I was with someone important. Plus, hadn't been following the thread, and did not know that the car hadn't been spotted much.
.

The driver wasn't really pushing it, so no loud exhaust note or acceleration to fancy about.

The car looks pretty cool on road, but as discussed the lack of customization and options is a big downer.

Saw this car on the expressway food mall. I asked the person driving it to fire the engine. To my shock it sounded as if 2 nano engines fired together.

It is given in the tech- sheet, but it is mentioned as restricted top speed. Should be an electronic limiter that would be cracked. The real downer is the lack of airbags. Structure would not have been tested as well unless they plan to export this car to other developed markets.

I think they meet Indian regulations for safety.

For a guy who just designs mostly the shell and interior, its really a insipid design.

The interior looks good, but the exterior is another story altogether. Like someone else posted the front and rear look the same, it looks like a fish with the tail cut-off and then squashed. It will be overpriced. The options list I guess was put together by a kid that didn't know that zeroes had a lot of value when used on the right end of a number. Overall, if it turns out to be a good car to drive, I can see myself buying one five years down the line "pre-worshipped" for less than million bucks.

re: The DC Avanti Sports Car : Auto Expo 2012 EDIT: Now launched at Rs. 36 lakhs!

Thank you Team-BHP for the shout-out on passing the DC Avanti details. I appreciate it!
I agree the prices are on the higher side. But do you think that people who spend 30L on a car which is impractical as a daily family commuter car would care about being over charged for a few items to customize the vehicle.
You have to see the vehicle in person and it justifies the cost. I ended up deleting the video clip I had which has the exhaust sound. But if I do manage to get it I will share it with all the petrol heads in here.
BMW, Benz are mass produced, while Avanti is going to be a limited production!

So why are we still calling it a supercar? With close to 125 BHP/ ton - does it deserve a supercar status, even in our country? A Honda City has around 110 BHP/ ton.

I think 'Indian Car Scene' is a better place for this thread.

And is it just me who noticed the alcantara "leather" option?!?

What the hell is that?

Isn't alcantara man made material which is like artificial suede??

Autocar have uploaded a first drive video of the pre-production car. 0-100 in 7.75s.

From the first drive video, the car seems really slow to take off the line(0-100 in 7.75? Really DC?), and also slow in corners. Maybe being a prototype, he wasn't pushing it hard enough in the corners.
Front looks OK'ish. After much effort, I've somehow managed to digest the rear of the car. But the side, how did he manage to add all those lines, waves and vents in such a short space? There doesn't seem to be much engine roar either. Forget the roar, at least some sweet note when revved. Not to mention the interior(seems the layout is similar to a GT86), standard equipment, no ESP, and insanely priced options list.

Admire DC for at least acting upon this 'affordable sports car' dream that every Indian petrol-head has. Of course, its difficult for a newbie(in car manufacturing) to get along with the big guns. But they clearly went overboard with certain elements, and didn't even come close to expectations in certain other. I think DC got their priorities mixed up. I'm sorry to say this, but I just can't see why anyone in their right sense of mind would buy this over a 328i, at least in this current iteration.

Looks good actually. Performance is really lacking, even mid size family sedans would be faster than this
