Can anybody point out the exact cause of the fire? Over revving doesn't seem to fit.

Guys i just got some more bad news. The silver r8 which caught on fire was actually getting sold next week and the current owner already took a token of 20-25 lacs.

Was it the R8 Coupe with Quattro or just the normal one?
Edit : I mean what year make.

AFAIK all R8's built till date have had Quattro.

That's what I think to but someone told me that the R8 Coupe launched recently doesn't have Quattro and that 2009 onwards only select few have it.

I could see the smoke from some distance away as I was about 10-11 cars behind it. People reportedly said they saw smoke coming out of the vehicle while it was being driven which is when the driver was alerted.

The guys in the vehicle were lucky to have got out in time as the entire vehicle was gutted in less than 15-20 mins. That fire spread in no time !!!

In addition, due to the vehicle catching fire at the worli end of the sea link, this incident was bought under control quickly as the cops and organizers present there ensured everyone was pushed back to a safe distance till the fire brigade got there.

The cops and the organizers did a very good job of organizing the traffic and the crowd. GS himself got off his car and went near the R8.

There was a spat or something of the black lambo owner with the cops. Anyone knows about it? The car was pushed to the side. As it is there was a lot of crowd there and hence we decided to stay away from there.

Hope these things don't reduce the trunout of the cars and the event continues to take place.

What I gathered from the crowd was the Lambo stalled whilst revving and the crowds got enthusiastic to give it a push which made the owner scream on them to not do that. This is just hearsay so can't be sure.

It was most sad to see the R8 being pulled by the towing van. Bits of the car were just falling on the road. However kudos to the fire men to bring the flames under control.

However I feel these incidents should not hamper the future of the event in anyway. However people should be a lot more mature and give way to these beautiful cars instead of blocking them.

Any one got pics of the golden matt lambo. The car looked awesome.

Overall lived the event, my little BHPian had got his toy Bugatti and was enjoying seeing the other cars. He was full of questions as to how the car caught fire.

Don't know how it got fire, but the occupants were safe. The car was NOT part of the supercar show, and had joined in for the drive.

I just asked my one buddy who is a technician at audi and he said the plastics in the engine bay could of gotten real hot and cause a fire.

I re-checked all the pics that I had clicked to understand which was the Audi R8 that got into trouble today.

The doubt was about the silver one with blue strip. But after checking all the pictures, I could not find any Audi with matching alloys.



The alloys don't look like the following one. Also this one is more like mettalic-grey than silver.


So, my guess is that the R8 involved in today's accident was not part of the display yesterday and might have participated in the parade directly today.

Just like the n number of cars which chase the parade cars, even this R8 would have joined the parade somewhere midway.

A news channel just reported - GS mentioned that the R8 was NOT part of the show and was not part of the parade.
