British handmade car builder - Profusion Exotic Cars - has released the 2013 Typhoon. Pre-orders are now being taken for 2013 dispatches in India. The company is hopeful of starting deliveries in the second half of this year.

Typhoon specifications:

- 2.0 liter petrol motor
- 145 BHP and 188 Nm torque
- Kerb weight of merely 630 kg
- Power to weight ratio of 230 BHP / Tonne
- 0 - 96 kph time of 4.3 seconds and a top speed of 210 kph
- No electronic gizmos :D

Chris Christoforou, MD - Profusion Exotic Cars, says they already have UK type approval, and are looking at making the car road legal. The ability to get RTO approval will be crucial in India; unless owners can get their cars registered at the RTO and drive them on public roads, the Typhoon won't even succeed at becoming a niche product.

As with most hand-built cars, there are plenty of customisation options. Owners can choose the seat colour, brake caliper colour, brake disc pattern, rear wing colour, wheel arch shape and different steering options. You also get push button start & a colour matched helmet.

UK prices start at around £29,000 while India prices will be in the range of Rs. 55 lakh (ex-showroom). Coming up are variations that include a simpler (cheaper) model, as well as one in track trim.

The motors sound pretty weedy, and for its MRP why would anyone pick this over an atom or a caterham (im guessin the prices are similar)? Epic fail IMO,

55 lakhs for sheet metal folded and bolted?? man this is insane!!

Ariel Atom in comparison looks smashing and has a equal stunning engine!!

This looks like a cross of Ariel Atom and Caterham.. Side profile is very ugly but this indeed can be a very good track day car.

@GTO - How does it fair against the Atom ?
I saw the Fifth Gear episode in which they pit the Atom vs the Radical SR3(which costs twice as much as the Atom) and the result was that the Atom is a better car.
What do you guys feel about Typhoon vs the Atom ?

Atom all the way, jus look at the engine specs on this .appears to have been pulled out of any mid size sedan like a corolla. And the options? Sounds like a joke. The cat and the atom will just blow this thing away on the track

This car is going to be quick but needs a bit more work to become an absolute beast. Boost the engine. 2 litre evo engines put 400 bhp stock (lots of forged internals admittedly, but still) so more power and put it down properly on the road and you have a track day tool that is up there with the very best in the business. The light weight is really good though we need to see how the chassis and suspension handles. The blue print for a good track day is simple enough. Light weight, good coefficient of drag, good spoilers for downforce, good engine, good handling characteristics. Execution is the hard part.

Is the Atom available in India?any idea about the pricing as compared to the Typhoon?

O Yes! I second you.
BTW, I wasn't aware of a 500 ps Atom :eek: (which is made from 2 Suzuki Hayabusa Engines).
Even the normal Atom is lighter than the Typhoon, and yes it has an extra 100 horses on the tap too.
If I am not mistaken then, the Ariel Atom is the undisputed King of the "Pocket-Rocket" category.

I would rather call it a high speed Go-Kart.

And for pure thrill I will any day buy 'Busa' GSX1300R!
Top speed ~ 300KM/Hr and 0-60 well under 3secs!

All this for one third of the price of this thing.

Interesting to see the way Indian market is maturing and opening up new niches.

Question is how many can and would buy a 55L+ track tool.

But the same product offered at say 15L+ would be a game changer.

In that case, a good superbike will decimate almost any supercar and is quicker round a track than most vehicles.

Yes, it is just a fancy go-kart. At a price of 55L it is just a track day toy for the rich so expect sales volumes to be low. However it is good thing that such vehicles are being sold here. It indicates the growing maturity of the market.

Since it's hand made, all they need to do is get the parts down along with the tools and build it in India. Lower cost of labour will bring down the price considerably. I'm sure that the bulk of the 55lakhs price is super expensive british labour and the second highest is the import duty.

Anyone here remember the chinkara ?

It was priced around 10 lakhs if I remember right.

The same car with a good 120 bhp motor will probably cost not more than 15 lakhs if manufactured in India.

Also I thought there was a problem with homologation of cars with exposed wheels, maybe they have changed that rule.

I remember caterham making some noise about coming to India, and locally manufacturing cars.

Hopefully lots of wealthy people will buy this and convince them manufacture here.
