Thats a real heads up for people bringing in their vehicles from other countries for a vaccation here in India.

From this article:

Quote:

The owner of the Toyota, Hameed from Kasargod, was found without relevant documents. Nor had he paid road tax.
Could it be that the vehicle was brought in via the carnet route? Of course, it smells fishy as the owner doesn't seem to have any supporting documents. Just wondering who in his right mind would drive around an allegedly illegal import with foreign plates.

Who cleared the FJ Cruiser at the docks in the first place? The concerned customs officer should have already been summoned.

I had spotted this vehicle last weekend here in Bangalore but thought it should be a diplomatic car hence the different number plate.

BTW GTO what is carnet route?

For information:

Carnet is document which allows importing of certain goods to countries without paying customs duty.
For motor vehicles its called the Carnet de Passages.

Carnet is the passport/visa for vehicles. Valid for a limited period.
The vehicle needs to leave before the carnet expires.
