Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

Another W220 S class bites the dust. It had another S350 giving it company but that seems to have been rescued. God alone knows what's gonna happen to this one.

Collapsed air suspension = lakhs in repair. Additionally, the electronics & worn out mechanicals on such an old car would have been a nightmare to live with. A typical S-Class owner / millionaire has more pressing things to be concerned about.

RIP complex German. You'll be having a lot of company (1st batch of Indian Audis & BMWs will soon be completing 10 years).

The range rover with a trailer and the white e30 bmw have been saved. Someone happened to send me recent pictures of this very warehouse and it looked quite empty compared to what it was in 2011. I believe most of the cars were auctioned off seems like the customs department is finely finishing up the age old pending cases on these cars and auctioning them off! The same e30 is also listed on our very own classifieds as well heres the link:- http://classifieds.team-bhp.com/buy-...3-Series.html/ hope the quoted price is a typo

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

Are these cars in a condition to be restored now - being that they have been lying in this state for more than 15-20 years. Unless they are sold "dirt" cheap, it doesn't make sense. Most of the models (except for the Renault and the Mercedes can) are available in the used car market already and that too in working condition. By the way, where is this warehouse situated?

Some of them are worth saving I guess if people are restoring them. They are sold dirt cheap from what I understand someone paid 60-70k for a 80s bmw 6 series it has been mentioned on this thread somewhere. As far as I know even the BMWs are quite sort after especially the one with the M kit and the coupe/convertibles not too many of those on our roads. But yes most of the cheaper/not so sort after marques do end up getting scrapped 99% of the time. These cars are at uran in new bombay.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

pzamindar shared these pictures via email.

He said a friend took these pictures just outside Mumbai, but can't remember where.

If anyone knows the location of this car, please do share it, as he is keen to locate it.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

A similar one was lying around for a while in the MET College (Bandra) compound before it was towed away. But that one was white and this one looks as if it has been repainted - probably the same one.

Looking at the tractor in the background - it seems to be outskirts of Mumbai.

Is this captured via mobile phone?

If yes, then in all probability using the meta-data of image file the GPS location can be traced. That is the easiest thing to do to get location info.

One such tool is ExifTool.

You may try these links on how to read GPS Information / plot

Just found a pic that I had posted in 2006. This one looks like a different LC from the one I posted.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

I loved the MB100 & MB140 vans - they were quite a hit with the hotel industry when they were launched. Sadly these were Korean (SsangYong) and not as well built as other Merc's.

Auto Hangar used to have a MB100/140 as their backup/service vehicle.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

I don't remember if I had posted this earlier (or if anyone else has) - one of the magazines (BSMotoring, OD or ACI) had published an article on some imported cars abandoned / seized at a Mumbai warehouse. Does any one have a link to it?
