Spotted this Mazda RX-8 outside a garage at Mysore.

I have been seeing this Range Rover Supercharged 5.0 V8 Autobiography in this same condition at this very spot for past so many months. Not sure if it has been abandoned, but looks quite neglected in its present state. Sad to see this lying around ignored as the Autobiography variant is quite special, and is possibly rarer than a Ferrari in India.

This 2010 BMW 740Li (one owner!) has been rotting away in our apartment complex for over 3 years. It was a regularly used car in it's initial years, but since 2017 the car was barely used and since 2020 it has not moved at all. Got parked due to some unrelated legal trouble the owner got himself in. Along with this BMW, there is also an older Mitsubishi Pajero rotting away in similar condition.

The car is a lot dirtier than the picture portrays. Suspension shot, brakes rusted, covered in cobwebs and sitting on the ground. Sadly, I don't see it ever getting back on the road. The restoration would probably cost many times more than the car is worth today.

There is a 5th generation Ford Mustang rotting near my house. Could not click a picture of it, but I can tell you the story.

The car was imported here for a movie, turned into a convertible by cutting its roof off, and then abandoned near the studio when filming was done. Sometime later, an individual took the car and restored it to its former glory, even making a roof for it from scratch. However, he soon began modifying the car to such an extent that it became unrecognizable. It was later abandoned in a workshop where it sits today, ironically with it's roof missing.

If anybody knows what car I am talking about, can you please take a photo?

A bit off-topic, but in Delhi there are drives going on, where the RTO authorized officials are roaming even residential localities to identify vehicles which need to be scrapped as per the 10 yrs for Diesel and 15 yrs for Petrol rule.
They simply come and seize the vehicle on sight, and get it loaded to the cranes. The owners are given a measly sum of money in return(much lower than what they would have received if they had scrapped the car themselves) and a scrapping certificate.

I stay in South Delhi, and saw 2 cars being picked up from our common parking area, a petrol Toyota and a Diesel Audi!

That is the worst way a democratic government can take away a person's asset/property. There are many people who just want to keep the car for the memories attached to it and/or sentimental value and do not drive it on the roads, however the civic authorities do not seem to care. This is the reason that the number of cars gathering dust on the roads and in the parking lots has reduced drastically in the national capital.

Hello to all my fellow BHPians.

This is a post that you would appreciate and enjoy reading. It’s about a 1960s 3-door Land Rover Defender parked on the side of the road in the streets of Chennai. One day while returning home on my two wheeler a peculiar body shape on the side of the road caught my eye from a distance, when I got closer I noticed, it was an old Land Rover Defender which I had seen for the first time in real life, It was not particularly in good shape. Nevertheless, I was very excited and parked my vehicle a bit further and ran back to take a pic and bask at the beauty. When the pictures were being taken I was confronted by a person and was asked several questions about why I was taking pictures, after explaining to him that I was a car nut and was excited to see such a rare, car he seemed to look relieved. Turns out that a couple of months back a few media people had come by the car and posted negatively about the car standing by the side of the road. The video stated that - its such cars like these that bring down the beauty of the city. After hearing about this, the person who confronted me had never let anyone take pictures of the car. However, upon hearing my story he gladly let me take some pictures.

Turns out he is a mechanic who’s garage was across the street and he was given the task of restoring the vehicle back to mint condition. My heart was full when he said that the vehicle was going to be restored. This vehicle belongs to an English professor who bought the car back in the day. The mechanic said that the Land Rover caught the eye of the professor while he was watching a movie and just instantly knew that he would like to do nothing more than own that car. And during his time he had put up all his savings and bought his dream car which he vigorously maintained for several years. But during the late 90s, the engine failed and he decided to swap it with a 2.0 liter Diesel (The car originally had a petrol engine).

After the engine swap the car was only driven for a couple of years as he became quite old and just couldn’t drive anymore. This resulted in the car sitting for over two decades after which he decided to restore his priced possession. He gave it to the same mechanic who did the engine swap 20 years ago (who also does car restorations) to bring his beloved vehicle back to life. The car was waiting for parts to arrive from Darjeeling and the UK. Also, there was a TATA Sierra currently being restored in his garage so he couldn’t find any space to park the car. The plan was to get the exterior a complete makeover and swap the diesel engine with a petrol one that the car originally had. The guy seemed very happy sharing all this with me as he felt very relieved the younger generation was interested in such cars. I guess that’s the beauty of our community. We love our rides no matter what and always have a strong emotional connection with the cars that we drive.

After exchanging numbers and him promising to call me once the restoration was done so that I could take a look, I went on my way. I sincerely hope that the car gets back to its former glory and becomes a piece of history that people will cherish. Such kinds of projects give me hope that people are willing to ignore finances when it comes to maintaining their car and the younger generation could see such works of art.

This 1997-2001 generation of Honda Accord (sixth generation) was found abandoned near my home in RR Nagar, Bangalore. Initially, it looked like the car was undergoing some sort of a restoration/repair work but has been gathering dust since.
