Rooftop view of Mercedes, Baner. An everyday sight for me, breaks my heart.

Those are the service centres job stoppage cars, either the parts are getting imported or the owners/insurance companies haven't paid for the work yet.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

Was lost around the US embassy a couple of days back, came across a wagon gathering dust. On looking more closely I was shocked, it was a Nissan Stagea wagon. I couldn't stop to have a more 'more close' look. As you cant park in the vicinity, and also sure photography is prohibited. Does anybody know about this one. I hope the owner decides to sell this boxy vixen before he/she goes home.

Seems that the humble Maruti 800 is cleaned more often than the more expensive facelifted first gen Porsche Cayenne GTS.

Hi,
Apologies for digging up such an old post, but I think these Rangies might be in the police station because of being involved in a complaint/court case against JLR.
The air suspension on the car seems to have collapsed, and this was the reason there are many ongoing cases involving previous-gen Range Rovers. There have been images of Range Rovers with collapsed air suspensions parked in court premises as well. Anyone please correct me if I am wrong.

I don't think this is the case here.

It's just that all Land Rovers with air suspension tend to collapse when parked for long durations.

It's pretty hard to find a picture of an abandoned Land Rover (Range Rover, or the earlier Disovery) with a perfectly level and high suspension.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

I doubt any of the cars having a complaint against them due to faulty parts would be kept at a police station to rot. These seem to be imports that have been seized by the police for various other violations (import) or criminal cases (belonging to criminals).

That's very unlikely. Because replacing even the full air suspension would be maybe 9-10 lacs max. And no one buying a 1 crore car is going to dump it and leave it for 10% the cost of the car (or even less maybe). Probably another kind of case, and the suspension has dropped since the cars have been standing there for a while.

Back in their heyday, these were favoured by 5star hotels for airport transfers. After a while they were sold and then ended up with smaller travel agencies. Unable to maintain them, probably due to the high cost of spares (and availability, since most of them were private imports to the best of my knowledge), these vans have ended up rotting.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

The MB100/140 were officially sold in India and I don't think any of them would be a private import. Maybe you are referring to the V Class or the Vianos which would have been imported through the EPCG scheme - which were also officially available through MBIL.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

Difficult to guess what's under all those bumpers - but it's a Mercedes and most probably it's the fake C43 AMG. The wheels looked very similar to one on the C43 - but could be any C Class. This is just one of the many C Class' rotting around the city.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

No love for a beautiful E39. Lying like this since a long time at Shivaji Park. This is the 525 TDS, once the fastest diesel sedan in the world.

Most likely, the cost of repairs exceeded its market value, or the owner got fed up of sourcing parts & finding mechanical expertise.
