Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

A first gen Hyundai Accent - probably one of the very few imported by HMIL before the launch of the Hyundai Accent in India.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

This is how the CL55 AMG (Pic : Me and the CL55 AMG.) looked 13 years ago when it was just imported.

And this is how it looks now (not sure how old this pic is though). Seems to have been abandoned by the new owner.

V12 , any idea where the car would be currently? It is truly terrible to see the car in that condition

When you put it like that with before & after pictures, it is truly a depressing sight.

I hope she served the owner well for the 10 - 13 years that she was alive. Would be interesting to know the odometer reading. But the high-end Europeans of today really have a life of only 10 years. After that, the time, money & expertise required to keep them running is too much of a headache.

The moneybags who bought it new would have already moved onto the next big thing. Potential second or third owners would be petrified by the cost of keeping it running (which could exceed the cost of the car).

Many of the cars posted here were once part of a separate thread more than a decade ago. However it's really sad to see them part of this thread.

I believe the car was first sold to Choksi and then it moved to Kerala or Chennai from where I believe it's back to Mumbai in this condition.

Surprisingly most of the cars in this thread are Mercedes's - E and S Class's and some BMW 5s and 7s. I don't remember seeing a single Audi (the newer ones) on this thread. Does that make the Audi's more reliable and less expensive to maintain amongst the German manufacturers?

Many of the cars are during the import era when cars were not sold through official showrooms. The 4 Bangles were not fancied by buyers compared to the Blue-white and tri-star and hence hardly anyone bought and hence hardly any made it here.

For a moment I was wondering which Bangled BMW you were referring to

True most of the cars here are pre-import era which did not have an official service backup - except for Audi and BMW which had a good service backup in Mumbai (Ashiya Motors and Navnit Motors) and much before they officially entered the market.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

Hey R32 - I got this pic from the below link. There are a couple of W201's that I have seen semi-restored and now gathering dust. Let me know if you are interested, will send you the location details. Although I am not sure if they would still be around.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

Big thanks to Saurabh Saini for sharing!

So this car I spotted in Gurgaon at a garage besides Star Mall (Sector 30) in 2012! Yes, back then, but it is only now that I reached this thread and found it a perfect place for the clicks I've taken.

I visited this place a couple of times and saw many imported cars (don't remember their names - a sky blue VW Golf, an SUV with a v8) there coming for repairs. So I enquired about that car and had a talk with the garage owner who told me it was his car initially used in embassies, and is now resting because he used to participate in rallies and had no time to fix the car. The issue it had was a faulty fuel pump (and some electrical problems) which he said he'd arrange if I buy it.

He was selling it for 2.5L, but I couldn't buy it as I was only a student at that time. Now its gone...the car and even the garage!
