This is located very close to the Banaswadi traffic police station.
It was a private import from the US

I suffer heartache whenever I see this E39. By the way, I think it's more of a used car dealer rather than garage in that building. Forget his name. Runs a "from home" operation. We almost bought a late 80s Civic from him once.

Wow! Thanks for the memory. These Concertos were quite the rage in the 90s.

I would like to share the below news article regarding a 1990 model Mitsubishi Galant owned by a Keralite. The car has a great history - it bears an Iraqi-Kuwaiti registration and the owner drove it all the way from Kuwait to Kerala through 5 countries during the Gulf war.

OH! I never knew there was a dealership there! The E39 is no longer there! In fact most of the cars, barring a few have gone as the dealer has shifted. I hope someone has rescued the E39 and restores it to its original glory. I have seen an E34 Silver 525tds out there too, a couple of years ago. That too disappeared one fine day, I hope someone rescued it.

I wonder why he did not register the car locally. I met someone else who drove a Civic over as part of a convey. It was quite challenging as they had to battle diarrhoea and hostile guards in Pakistan.

These folks were exempted from paying duty due to their circumstances so I understood.

A friend found this MR2 abandoned in Porur, Chennai. Recieved these images from him. And checked details on Vahan and I am not sure how accurate it is, but the vehicle hasn't been insured since 2010 and the RC expired in 2015. It's such a shame to see a car just abandoned this way!

This appears to be abandoned since a year or two now. Recent rains has cleaned it however it hurts to see such a beauty gather dust! I fail to understand how they land in such situations.

Aw shucks, that's one of the best affordable sporty cars ever made. Mid-engine'd fun, great looks and Toyota reliability. Have driven it. Sucks to see it on this thread as the MR2 is simple mechanically and can be kept running, with some love & care. However:

This is what probably killed it. Have yet to see one *heavily modified* car that made it in the long run. Modifications may or may not kill short-term reliability, but they almost certainly kill long-term reliability.

Doesn't hurt me - the ugliest BMW ever made .

As I mentioned earlier, today's higher end luxury cars have a 10 - 12 year life. Tops. Their decline starts soon after with the 2nd / 3rd / 4th owner either repairing it cheap or ignoring work altogether.

Was chatting at length to my newly found Euro mechanic. He advised me that any BMW 7 series before the F01-F04 series is a bunch of trouble. Dont even go near it

While car window shopping earlier this year, I was surprised to see a 2006 BMW 730D for sale at Maruti Tru Value;
Sales rep there were struggling to sell it for 5L.

It was a trade in for Swift

730d for 5L !

Sometimes makes me wonder what's the point of investing in luxury cars altogether? Although I shrug this thought soon after but still, someone would have spent 90-100 Lacs on it in the past and now it is being sold for pennies and still nobody wants it!

A couple of years ago a friend of mine had been told about a 7-series BMW for sale at 7 lacs. This was what I believe a 6-8 year old car. He could have afforded to but to buy it but he said to me that some sensors in the car were not working and that would set him back by another INR 1 lac. Eventually he got himself a different new car.

Hence, any middle class family can afford to spend 5 lacs on a car but being a BMW they probably won't be able to afford the servicing and maintenance costs. To be honest, even I didn't go with buying a Honda Accord when I was looking for pre-owned cars and went for 3rd Gen City.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

Most of these luxury cars will be available at a very low price (lower than modern hatchbacks) after a decade of usage / abuse. The critical thing to remember here is that the maintenance / service / spare cost for these cars will still be as that of a luxury car. It will be easy to buy a luxury car at throwaway price - but remember these cars come with their own set of headaches and niggles - fixing which will not be a cheap task (reason why we see so many Merc's and BMW's abandoned).
