Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

I feel sad whenever I see these expensive cars abandoned only due to airmatic / air suspension failures. Most of the latest cars (from 2000s) posted in this thread are abandoned due to airmatic failure.

The Authorized service centers (Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Range Rover, Rolls Royce) quote a fortune to replace them. We need to find a cheaper alternative in India to revive those air suspension components.

Here is one of them, by a famous mechanic on Youtube, Car Wizard

I am also from noida and have spotted this jeep behind kailash hospital parking in July where I frequently see rare vehicles like a modded orange contessa and few generations of Toyota Hiace.

I believe this jeep is still worked upon as Rollcage and LED lights on top were not there at that time.

Surprisingly, not just in Mumbai but Bangalore too. There's a silver S320 near our place. I'll take a pic the next time I pass by.

Kindly pardon me if it silly, but I have always had this doubt. If it is just the air suspension that is at fault, cant that be replaced with regular spring/coils ?

No, the design is little complex in these cars, this airmatic suspension / airbags sit on top of the regular struts. Please watch the video I posted for more technical information, that guy Car Wizard explains it all. Initially I too thought replacing these air suspension components with regular struts and coil springs would do, but the whole component design, the mounting points are different.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

Can any member help with the auctions info for these cars (if they take place), I see many of these beauties in quite decent condition. I know a lot of people who would love to get their hands on something premium and take proper care of it as well.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

One of the countless W220's junked in Mumbai. This one was about to be scrapped at Kurla CST Road today and made available in parts tomorrow. Looking at people breaking and dismantling there cars reminded me of the Alang Ship breaking yard. Kurla CST Road should be renamed to Kurla Car Breaking Yard.

With regards to the car scrapping polices, i think if it is organised well, it could turn out into a good parts market that could be made available country wide.

This Citroen has been rescued by Allan Almeida and he has done an amazing job on it. This place was the birthplace of the Citroen Club of India.

this is one of the most beautiful cars and I'm glad it got rescued/restored.
Any pic's available?

I see one in one of the suburbs in Helsinki in a bad state but still running. Old man doesn't want to sell it. He drives his other love - Jaguar E-type, more than the Citroen.

Re: Pics: Imports gathering dust in India

My sincere query as I am a fan of the 2000s cars, can these cars be restored and if yes, how would be the maintenance?
