I don't think that will solve the problem, petrol cars older than 15 years are not allowed to enter Delhi.

The Supreme Court ruling banning 15 year old petrol and 10 year old diesel vehicles is a blanket ban. It applies not only to those vehicles bearing a Delhi registration number plate but is also applicable to those vehicles passing through the city, carrying a non Delhi registration number.

I have a question here. What if the car is not registered in Delhi and has got a fitness certificate and an extension of RC for another 5 years ?

Is that car allowed in to be driving in Delhi NCR ?

This whole NGT ban on Petrol and Diesel cars is very murky. No clear explanation.

Nope; even if the old car has a valid registration, you cannot use it in NCR

Suzuki Hayabusa and Yamaha R6 found abandoned in Thane

A red Suzuki Hayabusa and a Yamaha R6 were found abandoned at an RTO in Thane. The bikes could have been seized by the DRI during a crackdown on illegally imported superbikes. Other superbikes, including a Yamaha R1, were seized and are now lying in a poor state.



The Hayabusa is one of the most popular superbikes in the country. It is powered by a 1,300cc in-line 4-cylinder engine and is considered to be one of the fastest motorcycles in the world, with a top speed in excess of 300 km/h. The motorcycle shot to fame in India after actor John Abraham rode the bike in the movie Dhoom.

Along with the Hayabusa, the images also show a Yamaha R6 covered in dust. Although the R6 was never officially sold in the Indian market, it did have quite a following. Yamaha discontinued the road-going version of the R6 recently, replacing it with the YZF-R7 model which was unveiled last month. The Yamaha R6 is, however, available internationally for track-only use.

DC Avanti sportscars abandoned at Talegaon factory near Pune.

DC Avanti was called the first Indian sports car. However, it failed to gather the sales that DC was hoping it to. It was first unveiled at Auto Expo 2012 and went into production the same year. The Avanti was discontinued in 2016 because of the stricter automotive norms that were introduced in India. The sports car missed out on bare essentials like airbags. Now, there are a lot of abandoned Avantis lying at the DC’s manufacturing plant located in Talegaon. The condition of the Avanti sportscars does not look good as they have started to rust.

Avanti was a two-seater sports car that was priced around Rs. 30 lakhs before it got discontinued. It had a mid-mounted engine layout. DC used a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that was sourced from Renault. The engine produced 250 bhp of max power and a peak torque output of 340 Nm. It was offered only with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Avanti had a claimed top speed of 200 kmph.

The next project for DC was a new generation of the Avanti which would have been an electric vehicle. It would have been marketed as India’s first fully electric sports car. It was slated to launch in 2022. The powertrain of the electric Avanti was being developed in Switzerland. It would have been able to hit a ton in just 5.5 seconds from its 160 kWh battery pack. However, now all these plans are abandoned.

Rare first-gen Skoda Octavia Combi vRS found abandoned

A rare first-gen Skoda Octavia Combi vRS has been spotted abandoned in Surat, Gujarat. This particular car is finished in yellow.



The Combi is the estate version of the Octavia and was sold in India for a brief period. The car was available in L&K trim with a diesel engine as well as a performance 'vRS' variant with a turbocharged 1.8-litre petrol unit. This engine put out around 150 BHP and 210 Nm.

However, even though enthusiasts loved the car, it failed to sell due to its high price. Many customers who wanted a performance variant went for the vRS sedan. The estate is a rare sight on our roads today, and a Combi vRS even rarer.

There are few first-gen Octavia Combis in India and even fewer VRs ones. It's sad to see such an awesome car get left to rot. But I don't think it is worth saving from a financial standpoint. It must be mechanically totalled to be left this way. I am assuming this as these turbo-petrols weren't exactly known for reliability.

Anyways, it is sad to see such a gem die.

The yellow one is the same Red one which was originally showcased in 2012 Autoexpo. This is the concept/prototype while the others are the actual production models.

Avanti might not be what people expected it to be but it was a fun car to drive. These don't deserve to die this way. The super slow government and legal machinery in our country ensure such unnecessary waste of assets.

Bengalurian BHPians will be aware of the derelict petrol pump at the corner of Kasturba Road (next to Kanteerava Stadium) which always has a motley collection of imported vehicles parked long term and gathering dust.

Happened to be in the region yesterday and here are some pictures - most of the cars are in a bad shape and look uncared for and some have their wheels sunk into the earth....though i could see a VW V6 Phaeton (Mumbai Registered) and a Range Rover (HP registered) which looked in good nick.

It will be great if some knowledgeable BHPians could throw some light on what's the deal is with this collection - whether these cars are up for sale ? being repaired? Seized? Illegal?

This “dealer’s” business was thriving in the ‘90s when it was only Mercedes that had officially entered the domestic market. Once BMW and Audi cemented their domestic presence in the country, this guy’s business began to decline.

Rumour has it that most of these vehicles don’t have clean and marketable titles. Most of them are grey imports. Some have been subjected to LHD to RHD conversions. Some cars don’t have matching engine and chassis numbers. Some are chop jobs that have been put together and brought down to the country to sell to unsuspecting customers.

There are some very interesting vehicles parked at this spot, including a clean-looking W140 S-Class and several Land Cruisers. Such a shame.

In addition to what Suhaas mentioned

A lot of these cars are

1: Rich man's disposals from other states
2: Fleet disposals - some of the older Leela Mumbai cars have appeared here
3: Cars from other states with questionable history
4: Old customs disposals

You would expect such a high value collection to move in the interests of cashflow. Nothing happens.

Some of the cars get hired out for movies
Some are cash down leases especially from cash rich non urban areas. They use it for a few months and exchange it.

The W140 has been there for a long time - pretty bad condition
The BMW 730i was immaculate about 7 years ago.

The place was called Maruthi Bunk owned by a Mr.Maruthi if I remember right. Visited the place about 15 years ago when my late uncle was looking for a Landcruiser. As has been mentioned the paperwork was all over the place with a take it or buzz off attitude.

Found a similar bunk with old cars opposite the turn to timber yard on the Mysore Road.
