Toyota Premio Spotted

Stopped at a Traffic light in Chandigarh, and thought a Corolla is ahead of me until i had a second look. The badges said something else, though it looked just like a corolla from the rear, however the front looked like the new Camry, and dimensions were similar to Corolla. The registration said it was a newly registered car,and why would anyone choose it over a usual corolla, and how did it end up landing here?

The rear design looks based on previous generation Camry. However, little search on Google suggests that it JDM specific car slated between Corolla and Camry.

To me it looked more like a corolla from the rear.
And front grill had a different logo not a Toyota.

re: Toyota Premio Spotted

My guess is that, this may be an import. Because AFAIK, this is definitely a 2nd Generation T26 series Premio and isn't manufactured here in India, but the surprising thing is that the Premio is exclusive only to the Japanese Toyota Dealerships. Must belong to some company i guess.

As per Wikipedia, The Premio is slated as alternative to Camry. IMO, The difference in Logo is because they are sold thru Toyopet Stores. Here are the pictures for you to compare between Camry and Premio:

re: Toyota Premio Spotted

I have seen this car a couple of times in Chandigarh. By the registration number it seems like it is almost two years old. That's roughly the same time as when I had spotted it for the first time.
Belongs to Sector 7. I think.

Many Toyota models have a sub-brand logo, especially in the JDM.
They sport the sub-logo in the front and the Toyota logo in the rear.

In some cases the sub-logo matches the name of the model too.
Alphard has an 'Alpha' symbol.
Noah gets an 'N'
Sienta gets an 'S'

Some examples below.

Could some dude buy a Premio logo/decal on eBay Japan, stick it on a corolla and set off all the budding auto journalists into a tizzy?

I should do that on my Hyundai, just for kicks

re: Toyota Premio Spotted

The owner lives quite close to my home in Manimajra.

If I'm not mistaken, they have a 7th or 8th generation Toyota Corolla also which has been with them before Corolla was officially launched in India.

Both these cars are usually parked close to each, that's why the assumption of them being owned by same family.

Jaspreet Singh

re: Toyota Premio Spotted

its more of a corolla than a camry, but its aimed at customers who want something better than a corolla but not as expensive as a camry, the interiors are better then a corolla's but comes with the same vvti engine. This car is very common back home, personally i don't like this car,too plasticy, but quite comfortable to drive and sit in.

As the above posts have rightly pointed out, this is a JDM Specific Toyota Premio, slated above the Corolla but below the Camry! It's a great car with a lot of kit!

The one you posted is the 2nd gen Premio. Sometime back, I had posted an ownership review of the 1st gen Premio imported from Japan to Kenya. Interesting read, you may want to check it out:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-d...-ex-japan.html

P.S. We have replaced the Premio with a 1st gen Toyota Mark X, which is another JDM slated above the Camry. Excellent premium vehicle from Toyota. If you're interested, I'll post a review of that too soon

Oh please do please. Please do post a review on the Mark X.

Was and still am crazy about it, since i came to know such a car existed.
Why you may ask...

Well, it is the successor of the Cressida which we had in Riyadh and which my dad fondly remembers even now. So, that's why my special interest.

Is it the 2.5 or 3.5l version ?

Please a detailed review like the one you did for the Premio, which i incidentally came across when searching for JDM imports in Tbhp two years ago.
