Racetech India builds a Ford GT40 Replica!

Well, the details are scarce on this one, but just stumbled across this immaculately replicated GT40 built by Racetech India! And it seems to be built with a splattering of all the best parts handpicked from across the world. As far as initial impressions go this replica stuns all the way to glory.

PS. Stellar photography as well!

Racetech India Builds a Ford GT40 Replica!

Racetech.in just posted a set of photos of a Ford GT 40 replica built by them in Bangalore. No further details on the base car or the specs of the vehicle have been posted as of now.

Pics of the vehicle from their Facebook page - Racetech India

Looks pretty good except for some bits like the amby indicator lamps at the front bottom of the car.

Base car might well be a Contessa however am not sure.

Nice nice nice!!! Looks spectacular!!

I wonder if/what kit they imported, and where the chassis was made.

Interestingly, this is not the first GT40 replica in India. See below:

Re: PICS : Tastefully Modified Cars in India

IMO this is not a good replica, the bulge on the roof was on the race car for Le Mans race driver who was bit tall & had to wear helmet. The bulge was on the driver side, i.e. right side only. The production variant, as far as I know, did not had such bulges, for helmets are not prescribed in road legal car.

Racetech have tried copying the other panels, but have over done the roof bulge & air scoop thing, which though could be functional, take away the elegance of the subject (Ford GT40).

One bulge too many doesn't exactly render it as a bad replica. It might not hark back to the original in the truest possible sense, but the good folks over at Racetech surely deserve one hell of an applause for replicating such an automotive gem with finesse, passion and taste.

Re: Racetech India builds a Ford GT40 Replica!

Is it a KIT that's been imported or an in-house fabrication ?. The former option would ensure any good workshop can execute a build as per the blueprint provided. If however, the latter is true, the level of design and application that needs to be done for building the chassis and forming the body over it deserves credit.

It would be a lot more pleasing to know that this is an indigenous product of Racetech.

However, with their background and expertise in customisation of existing cars/supercars and also not withstanding the law restricting these cars being driven on Indian roads, i am inclined to think this was an imported KIT with valid certification from the relevant Country of origin .

There is definitely some serious power down there considering they've gone in for an Albins transmission. Vehicle seems to be V8 NA coz the pipes are quite large for a turbo setup.

Edit:
I also feel , the rear venting system is not sufficient for Indian conditions. I know of someone, for whom we had to re-design and alter the venting of an Audi R8 to increase passenger comfort. If this was in-house, the flaw would have been noticed during testing and the right mods would be done. Clues that make me lean towards "its a kit".

Very nice. At least from the photos, job looks well executed. The twin exhausts are clearly functional - would be really interesting to see the engine behind that enormous radiator.

Beautifully Executed. But the only thing that bothers my eyes are the slightly positive cambered front wheels... may be my the pictures are deceiving.

The production variant was called Ford GT, and not GT40.
And the production variant should technically be called FordGT44.

So when they said GT40 replica, the bulge is justified.

Re: Racetech India builds a Ford GT40 Replica!

A really good build have to say. looks very much like the original .Have a few issues though.
1.the gap between the body panel and tyres hits the eye when one compares to the original. But then one has to mind the fact that this car has to handle speed breakers and indian roads.hope they find a solution for it.
2.Ya I too think the bulge is a bit overdone. Also the bulge does not resemble the original.

Re: Racetech India builds a Ford GT40 Replica!

ready to assemble replicas are available off the self as Kit Cars. not only for Gt40 but for other exclusives like Shelby cobra etc.

i have seen one Cobra being built on BMW chassis right in front of my eyes by a English genius who lives in Sri -Lanka, and he is a good friend.

Kit car! Kit car! Kit car!
Complete kit including base chassis brought into the country as parts and assembled here.
Cannot legally be registered in the country and if those are public roads where the photoshoot took place, it's illegal.
That said, there should be an RTO in some corner of the country who could be convinced with greasy palms and register it at the risk of his job.

Considering that the car has a registration plate at the back, I assume it's road legal. In that case, Racetech might have fabricated the body and bolted it on a readily available chassis. Most kit cars are sold without the engine and tranny, and I'm sure it impossible in India to register a car built using a DIY chassis-engine-tranny "marriage".

That's the first thing which came to mind in seeing the photos.

However if that's the case and the mods included adding the 2 scoops on top, then the earlier look was better. Somehow the DL kit car is much more appealing than this.
