Slightly OT. Couple of months ago when I was looking to buy LED-LCD TV I landed on this site. The TVs were listed as lots (like a bundle) and the price per piece was less than half ok MRP on stores. From my little research I came to a conclusion that these are the TVs that are getting sold in the grey market for cheap. Sometimes with dealer warranty and most of the times with no warranty at all. I thought this is all a scam and did not go for it.

It's a total different ball game when it comes to cars is it? I mean I saw people looked up Rapids, Ventos. Would it not change the way cars are traded in India? Imagine a big corporate with lot of money, couldn't it simply start importing and selling cars here? say KIA or some cheap Chinese cars?

So all these cars imported, are they legal just because customs was paid? Aren't there any road worthy certificates needed to run them? Sounds like no laws in place.

Its not as easy as it sounds. To elaborate, whenever one wants to import, first of all they need to register themselves with the govt. and get themselves an Import-export code. (This maybe a big corporate can do)

And as far as paying duty goes, it is the LAST step when it comes to importing anything. You reach here only after furnishing proof that the item (cars here) is road worthy, your dealer certificate, and many other documents. Then there's customs inspection/examination and only if the concerned officer is satisfied will he/she clear the importer and allow them to pay the duty. Remember, if any non-road worthy car is imported by any chance, it is the customs officer's job which is at stake too, so he'll definitely be extra cautious before allowing an individual to import any car. I've not been directly involved in importing cars as such, but I can confidently say that the customs won't simply allow you to pay duty and bring the car to India.

Could you please share some pictures of the W222 S500 Launch Ed with the AMG kit on some appropriate thread. Would love to see it.
This one was repainted by DC Design.

Used to be white before. Attaching a couple of pics, dont have pics of any better resolution, but these are enough to give you an idea. Pics by Aditya Aliawadhi.

This is YZP's 458 which was ordered over a year and a half ago. Probably the last Ferrari imported via Shreyans.

Re: Data of Cars imported into India: Available online!

Was surfing this site and found many superbikes engines have been imported in last 2 years. Is it legal to import used engines? Another things is search for CBR 600 and you will find multiple new CBR 600's and few spare engines too.

Re: Data of Cars imported into India: Available online!

Just ran a search for 'TVS Apache', interesting to see most of the engine components are from china (Piston rings, cylinder, piston itself). Wonder why they have a piston ring business of their own here in Chennai.

Could this be the upcoming Yamaha R25 brought in for testing in India?

Value = 216,099!
Guess that gives us some hints about the expected launch price!

Re: Data of Cars imported into India: Available online!

I can't make out the date when the Lotus Elise car was imported, its covered i think by the team bhp logo.
The one GS owns has been in Bombay for awhile like over ten years or so, i don't think was imported recently.
