re: Data of Cars imported into India: Available online!

Brilliant find.
Thank you so much for sharing with us.

Spent 45mins-1hour already on it.

Avishar, I assume, rest must be for the All India Porsche Stock.

These prices are ex factory + CIF prices of the products. Please note that even Italy imposes substantial VAT type taxes - which is why European cars are much cheaper in the United States or Dubai than in Europe.

The customs duty calculator gives the price which is an ex factory equivalent price for India - including customs and CVD. To get to the ex showroom price, you need to add Sales Tax (12.5% for most states) and Octroi, if applicable (5% for Bombay). Add 20% registration for imported cars and insurance and the value shoots up even further.

re: Data of Cars imported into India: Available online!

The import data for all items is available online for quite some time now. The rationale for keeping this data open is that it discourages misdeclaration of import value. These are one of imports but the rationale works very nicely in case of commodity / bulk imports.

Where is breach of privacy here?

The value should normally be the assessable value for custom duty and will include shipping and insurance.

re: Data of Cars imported into India: Available online!

I have been involved in some export/import process.

The prices mentioned would be the FOB + Insurance + Notional Freight.

The pricing of any normal product is done as following :

Cost of product + Manufacturers Margin = Freight on Board (FOB)

Commercial Invoice Value(Mentioned in the table) = FOB + Insurance + Freight

Importer Landing Cost = Commercial Invoice Value + Customs Duty

Dealer Landing Cost = Importer Landing + Importer Margin

In case of Dealer being same as Importer, Importer margin is eliminated.

Customer Price = Dealer Landing + Dealer Margin + VAT

Therefore, we see that the price mentioned in the table (Commercial Invoice Value) has a lot to add on before it reaches the Customers hand.

Hope I have been able to clear some doubts.

re: Data of Cars imported into India: Available online!

There was a discussion on one of the threads as to how many X5M's exist in India. The only one that most of us are aware is the one owned by SRT. And if this site is to be believed, there is only ONE X5M in India.

BMW X5 M50D RHD CHASSIS NO WBAZW820X0LT85810 AND ENG NO 90410451 NEW MOTOR CAR DIESEL VERSION 2993 CC

Origin Country : USA

Port of Discharge : Bombay Sea

The blue one was a private import AFAIK, not an import by Porsche India.
And there is also a new M3, CLA and GLA in the country along with two ML63s for homologation purposes.

Mini Cooper D is also in for testing.

I found many gems in the data including a Swift 1.6.

And that there are 24 Jaguar F type 3.0V6 S's in the country now.

Also Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit here for testing but its dated last May.

Another interesting Vintage that caught my attention was this.

Date : 5-May-2014

Description : USED ROLLS ROYCE 20/25 OWNER DRIVER SPORTS SALOON CH.NO.GWX1 Y.O.M.1933 CAR WD NOT PLY ON PUBLIC ROAD NOT REG.UNDER CMVR

Does the last statement mean that this car cannot be driven legally on Public roads?

Not just cars, even the data for spare parts is available here. Eg.

SPARE PARTS FOR ASTON MARTIN (MODEL: RAPIDE) - AUTOMOTIVE POLLEN FILTER (4G43-13ZE1-AA-PK)
Quantity : 5
Value (INR) : 20,050
Per Unit (INR) : 4,010

Gives us an insight on the margins companies' have on spares.

Regards,

Together with these, there are 100cc bikes being brought in by Honda and Bajaj as well. All for R&D purposes going by what the data says!

You will also find stuff that came through for the Formula 1 race that was held here!

87032291
HYUNDAI I20 CARS I20 5 DR 1.1 GL MT

i20 in 1.1 is something unheard of.

HYUNDAI ACCENT CARS ACCENT 1.5 GLS MT

Which ACCENT would this be? Or is Verna sold as ACCENT in Algeria?

Mahindra
