You're right aniguchisan, the Toyota Crown was one of the most favorite imports. I had heard from a friend that his friend had imported an immaculate fully loaded black Toyota Crown Super Salon (which he claimed to have been used by the Japanese President) complete with dark tints and flag post etc. Not sure if this was true but the car looked great.

v12, that may be possible, but I doubt it. It could be an ex-embassy car. The President(s), atleast during my time there in the 90s used, funnily enough, Nissan Presidents.

Oh, and this is another picture of the Toyota Crown from the previous page, that refuses to open up anymore!

I had a 1997 Royal saloon, just sold it. It is very comfortable and a very good highway car. I had the 3litre Petrol and had powered rear seats which recline about 20 degrees. They may look dated but in fact they had a lot of features like the Power rear seat and one unique thing which as far as I know no other car has. - It has Ac vents which swing left and right like in a room A/C.

Also Royal Saloons are the high end versions and Super Saloons were one down.
The Crown Majesta was top of the line.

Another thing is that it is the Flagship of Toyota in Japan, I know that the Toyota Century is the most expensive but the Crown always is the most Sophisticated.

Spotted a Daihatsu Move in Thane. Looked decently maintained, but was surprised why someone would import such a car when there were similar options available in the market at that time.

Mazda RX-7 from the 80's. The car seems to be in pretty decent condition with neat body lines and probably original paint work.

In 1989 , we got chennai first brand new Audi 80 with all the gizmos , I was in my 11 th grade in school and boy it was something else . Far superior to the 190 Mercedes and it looked like a generation ahead of its arch rivals though not too many( bmws) in chennai at that point . Was a time I could never forget

A look at the Supercar/Import section in the 80/90's.....-sonata1.jpg

When I saw this car today - I decided I would take a pic and put it up in the Wierd and Whacky thread. A Sonata with Camry tail lights.

A look at the Supercar/Import section in the 80/90's.....-sonata2.jpg A look at the Supercar/Import section in the 80/90's.....-sonata3.jpg
But when we drove close to it - we realised it was a LHD Sonata. Googled to see if this was an original one or a whacked out one - and I was surprised that this was the original one.

Koreans have been accused of taking design cues (copying) from many Japanese and European cars. After seeing this Sonata - I am now wondering if it was the other way round.

The tail lamps of the 2006 Camry and the headlights of the Jaguar XF looks inspired from the 1995 Sonata lights.

An immaculate E34 5 series spotted at Chakala today. The car looked as if it had just rolled out of the showroom. Saw it entering the Navnit workshop so guess its been regularly maintained there.

Re: A look at the Supercar/Import section in the 80/90's.....

I have been seeing some well maintained imports of the 80's/90's regularly featuring on our Classified section by a user called Javed Z. Anyone interested in cars from the 80's and 90's can check out the Classifieds. Current cars on sale include :

1985 Volvo 340

1985 Peugeot 505

Other cars that I have come across from other dealers / individuals

1986 Honda Accord

P.S : I am not associated with any of the sellers / dealers. Came across these cars on the Classified while browsing and posted for anyone's benefit.

Re: A look at the Supercar/Import section in the 80/90's.....

That Volvo 340 registration plate seems fishy as it is of a new series. I just registers a new car in Pune and the number is MH12PTxxxx. Hence this PA series can’t be 32 years old.

Re: A look at the Supercar/Import section in the 80/90's.....

I guess it would it would be a re-registered car and hence it has a new registration. The car looks to be very well maintained (or probably restored) - as are / were most of the other cars posted by the dealer. The colour , however , may not be original since I remember seeing it in a silver shade couple ago.

But with these older cars you never know - it could very well be fishy.

Crown salon used by a Japanese President?. To the best of my knowledge Japan is ruled by an Emperor. Maybe you know better, you're a Distinguished BHPian.

Replying to a post after 3+ years but I just saw it now .

Few weeks after you had posted that picture I posted pictures of a similar car in the imports gathering dust thread which was found in Andheri East:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/super-...ml#post3548542

Very surprising to see the same model and color of a relatively rare BMW at the same place, but hoping its not the same car.
