Ford F-150 SuperCrew in Mumbai

So somebody has imported a 2015 RHD Ford F-150 Lariat SuperCrew to Mumbai. First I thought it must be a Carnet import but then saw a picture showing MH registeration!

Any idea which garage this monster will be going to? I wouldn't be surprised if it shares garage with the recently imported Dodge Challenger.

And what is the engine spec? Is it the stock 2.7L twin-turbo V6 petrol or the optional 3.5L EcoBoost V6? RWD or 4x4?

A quick look at the stock engine specs and dimensions:

Doesn't look like stock. Aftermarket wheels, tires, grille, bullbar as far as the pictures show. So its either new fitted with accessories or slightly used

Yes its the LARIAT SUPERCREW. Its indeed the 2.7L Ecoboost. LARIAT is sold with Supercab and supercrew cab options.

Supercrew has 4 full doors and full size rear seats which the LARIAT has.

Supercab has 2 front regular doors and 2 smaller rear opening rear doors and smaller seats.

The regular cab does not have any rear seats while it does have small rear opening rear doors.

Definitely this one has some mods.

Looks smashing!!!!

This goes to a wonderful garage I'm told, with another American iconic car as the F150's stable-mate along with a couple of Italians, a bull and a horse !

It is indeed not stock. Turns out to be a "Black Ops" edition by Tuscany. Here's a better picture via Automobili Ardent fb page.

I wish it was a V8. Just like the Challenger, wish that was a V8 too.

True that.
Or this F150 should have been the 3.5L Twin-Turbo V6 EcoBoost motor seeing how that will be the engine of choice (obviously in a higher state of tune) for the upcoming SVT Raptor and is claimed to make more power and torque than the outgoing 6.2L NA V8!

Re: Ford F-150 SuperCrew in Mumbai

They have imported the vehicle in the wrong HTS tariff code 84071090 which is "Dumpers designed for off-highway use" with pay-load capacity exceeding 10 tonnes The first four digits are correct, which is 8704.

But after that it should have been different -

if it is a "Other, with compression-ignition internal combustion piston engine (diesel or semi-diesel)" it should have been 87042... or

if it is a " Other, with spark-ignition internal combustion piston engine" t should have been 87043...

That's quite a catch , they must have done intentionally , will be interesting to find how much one can save on duties this way , If I am not mistaken commercial vehicles does attract lot less custom duties then regular SUV / Cars .

Great observation, thanks!

Intentionally done to skip duties. This calculator shows the basic duty rate as merely 10% . Even after all the other levies are added up, it comes up to merely 30% (versus more than double the price for cars imported the right way). This is clearly a special purpose category - take a look at what Ashok Leyland uses it for here.

And a government circular on the same (link):

Quote:
enable a reasonable conclusion that they cannot be put to generalized or personal use; and Dumpers designed for off-highway use (as described in the Explanatory Notes to Chapter 87 of the Harmonized System of Nomenclature-HSN), for use by the service provider in his regular service business. It is reiterated that personal vehicles such as motor cars/ Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs)/ Multy Utility Vehicles (MUVs), etc. are not permitted to be imported against SFIS scrips.
This is one heck of a truck. But it sucks to see such blatant violation of the law. Whoever is importing this F150 clearly has the money - why not import it the right way? Import duties on cars are in place to protect our vibrant local industry.

Wow, that is one heck of a machine. I have seen all these monsters in Dubai last month and they for sure are a treat for our naked eyes. Wish and really hope Ford brings these trucks to India just like the Mustang! Can't wait to see the Mustang in the upcoming Auto Expo

OT:
Agreed. But I've always found this import duty tax rule a little too stupid. It makes sense if there is an actual local manufacturer actually making cars (and bikes) in these segments. Seeing how no one does (or ever will), I think the Government should ease off on the import duties. But if and when we do have a local maker entering a particular segment, they can and should levy this tax on import of vehicles from that segment. This would encourage the local players to enter new segments and us to enjoy more cars. But not until then.
Until then, this should count as discrimination. We should form a union. PEDA-People For Ethical (Import)Duty on Automobiles
We enthusists suffer the most by missing out on so many entry level sportscars (and bikes) and even hot hatches because of these exorbiant taxes.
Just my two cents.

Re: Ford F-150 SuperCrew in Mumbai

Importing under wrong HTS code amounts for fraud and our customs department is under the RTI act, so if someone does file a query under RTI this guy might get into trouble unless he is a politico or someone connected.

The VIN decoder says that it is a 5.0 V8.

Lot of aftermarket accessories on this one. Looks cool with the all blacked out trim.
