Rumour: McLaren to enter India soon

As part of its global expansion plans, McLaren could enter the Indian market in 2018. According to a media report, the British supercar brand could soon open its first dealership in India with an initial target to sell 10 cars annually. By 2022, the company aims to hit an annual sales number of 5000 units globally.

McLaren currently has 79 sales and service outlets spread across the world. This number is set to rise as it plans to enter Brazil and Russia as well.

McLaren's lineup consists of the Sports Series - 540C, 570GT, 570S Coupe and 570S Spider, followed by the Super Series which includes the latest 720S (which replaces the 650S) and the Ultimate Series which comprises of hypercars like the P1. The entry-level 540C is expected to be priced around Rs. 2 crore (ex-showroom) and is likely to be the more popular choice among Indians. It will be pitted against the likes of the Porsche 911 Turbo, the Mercedes-AMG GT and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage.

Meanwhile, Lamborghini is among the most sought after supercar brand in India. Reports suggest that the company sold 30 units in 2016 out of a total of 70-odd supercars sold that year.

Though i hope they come here, but really doubt they are going to. This rumour is from more than a year and not sure where Autocar has got this news again. Really hope they launch their cars here.

From what I have been told from rather reliable sources, this news is not true.

Just to add on to this, ranjitsundaramurthy, who is a serial supercar owner and a McLaren customer himself just confirmed with the factory and they say that they do not have any plans of coming to India next year. Considering the fact that he knows the McLaren higher-ups really well, I don't think there must be even an ounce of doubt on the credibility here.
Don't know where does Autocar India come up with such news from lol.

McLaren evaluating India entry

Rumour: McLaren to enter India soon-elvamclarenslatestsportscar.jpg
The manufacturer plans to expand in Asian markets to increase global sales to 6,000 units by 2024.
Quote:
British supercar maker McLaren Automotive is looking to expand to Asian markets ahead of a potential initial public offering (IPO) by 2025. In a meeting with reporters in Detroit, McLaren CEO Mike Flewitt said that the demand in Asian markets outside China remains strong, and the manufacturer was planning to open dealerships in Vietnam and the Philippines.

Flewitt said, “We need to put more cars into Asia. The next big ones are India and Russia. We’re not in either and probably should be.” Performance and supercar makers can take a leaf out of Lamborghini’s book, which despite the industry-wide slowdown this year, expects sales in India to grow by 30 percent. The Italian manufacturer’s rise in our market can be put down to the strong sales of the Lamborghini Urus SUV, which delivered 50 units in just over a year.

However unlike its rivals (Lamborghini, Ferrari and Aston Martin) McLaren does not plan to enter the SUV market. “We couldn’t afford to do it,” Flewitt said, adding, “It just doesn’t fit the brand.”

Instead, McLaren will bank its expansion strategy on a hybrid car with a new architecture under the skin that will be unveiled in mid-2020. The carmaker's UK sales have fallen, and that's their largest market. Flewitt revealed that McLaren sold about 4,800 cars globally in 2018, and is on track for a slightly lower number in 2019.

Some time ago, the CEO said that the owners of the McLaren Group are considering an initial public offering by 2025. However, on December 3, he stated that an IPO is only likely to come after all parts of the group (including McLaren Racing and a unit that markets technology) are generating profit.

Quoting Cityvic from the Mclaren's in India thread.
McLaren is finally coming to India with Infinity Motors being their sole dealers.

A very reputed group having great business dealings and ethics. They have been in the automotive sector of the country with Lamborghini, Aston Martin, BMW and Mini. Mclaren will be apparently be replacing their Aston Martin dealership which they recently. With most consumers wanting a change from the more mainstream Ferraris and Lamborghinis. This brand should be selling like hot cakes.
