Lamborghini took the wraps off their first super SUV last month. The Raging Bull wasted no time and promptly introduced the Urus in India for a whacking price tag of Rs 3 crores.

The Urus is so important for Lamborghini that they inaugurated an all-new production plant just for the SUV. As a Lamborghini tradition, the name Urus is derived from one of the large, wild ancestors of the domestic cattle. It is based on the VW Group’s new MLB Evo platform.

The Lamborghini SUV is targeted at the growing Chinese market. This dictated the size of the engine in the Urus. Under the hood sits a 4.0-litre turbocharged V8 breathing out a humble 650bhp of raw power at 6000rpm and 850Nm of twisting force between 2,250-4,500rpm channelled to all-four wheels via an eight-speed unit. The off-roader can accelerate from 0-100kmph in a sports car-shaming 3.6 seconds. The top speed of 305kmph gives it the crown of the fastest SUV.

The Italian SUV comes with the fighter-jet-style ANIMA drive selector which controls five driving modes – Strada, Sport, Corsa, Sabbia (sand), Terra (land), and Neve (snow). Apart from it, Lamborghini’s famous Ego mode is also present. To stop the mammoth beast with confidence, the Urus comes fitted with the biggest brakes fitted on a production SUV.

Looks wise, the production-spec Urus remains true to the original aggressive-looking concept. It is a supercar disguised as an SUV. Lamborghini has instilled every bit of their DNA in the Urus. It is unmistakably a Lamborghini with all those chiselled creases and the in-your-face styling. The front bumper is very busy with lots of slats and louvres making it look like a Sci-Fi creature. The SUV sits on massive 23-inch designer alloy wheels (largest in its segment). The Urus also scrounges the rear-wheel steering from the Aventador S. The wheels are wrapped in special Pirellis.

On the inside, it is everything you’d expect from a Lamborghini. Although highly customizable, the cabin is sporty and functional. There are two digital screens in the centre console, while instrument cluster is all-digital too. The Urus is a four-seater but can be had in a five-seat configuration as well. The boot space is 616 litres which can be extended to 1,596 litres.

The Urus locks horns with the likes of Bentley Bentayga, Land Rover Range Rover and other opulent and fast SUVs. If at all you were scurrying around for your cheque book, don't bother since all the Urus allotted to the Mumbai dealership have already been sold out. This shows the love for the Lamborghini SUV amongst the Indian connoisseurs. If you missed out a chance of getting yours this time, Lamborghini will start taking orders sometime next year. :Shockked:

And they brought LHD Urus for the launch event?
The car looks good and a cool crore cheaper than Bentayga. So basically you can buy a Porsche and Lambo at the price of Bentley, A VW and Audi at the price of Porsche, An Audi and Porsche at the price of Lambo and lastly A Skoda and VW at the price of Audi!

Finally a Lamborghini they can "actually drive" to Leh clap:

The car looks beautiful, and distantly a Lamborghini hyper car that has been jacked up[1]. What I think though: Is this going to dilute Lamborghini brand as a pure sports car manufacturer? Given the Porsche ventured into SUV business and they have a diesel :Shockked: in their Cayenne, will Urus too someday have a diesel pot in its belly?

[1] My reference here being a Hyundai Creta (Forgive me lords, for posting this name in thread) is basically a i20 that has been jacked up to give more ground clearance.

Not sure whether those pillar less doors will suit a SUV. And check the fuel consumption - 40.3L/100 kms translates to something like 2.5 kmpl. Looks like somebody had fun driving the car to the event :D.

Very good pricing I would say! :thumbs up

I'm not 100% sure, but it looks more to me like the car has been revved and idled a lot at a stand still, because the fuel consumption of 40.3L/100 kms is showing for an engine running time of 1:05 hours, with a distance of 0.8 kms covered, and an average speed of 1 kmph :D

Shmee drives the Urus.

My friend who works for Lamborghini is in Italy too. Might be a training program for them as well.

Pictures of the first customer Urus that has landed in Mumbai.
Still not a fan of the way it looks!

The drive is happening at Oxford Golf Resort in Pune.

A white and another blue Urus are also a part of the drive.

Here's a pic of the 3 Urus that's part of the drive. These three will serve as demo cars for 3 Lamborghini dealers in the country in Bangalore, Mumbai & Delhi.

Thats a pretty good move, considering most supercar dealers expect you to buy on sight only. Also helps having a big well resourced organisation (Audi) behind you. Ferrari, Aston Martin etc. would not be able to afford this
